The lift handle in 2004 was poorly designed, the plastic connectors eventually break. This replacement has 4 metal bolts. It took less than an hour to switch it out. The hardest part is getting the big plastic cover off on the inside of the liftgate. I went online and found a video showing where the connectors were and how to slowly and gently pull it off. Also had to carefully pry off the Toyota badge and glue onto the new handle. I have a silver car but the black finish looks fine as is, with the car having other black trim. It was going to cost $450 or more for a dealer to replace this liftgate handle.

I was concerned when the lift gate handle broke on my 2006 Prius . I did not know if I could replace it and the thought of going to the dealer parts counter and paying way to much $. I tried the internet and .found A1 Auto and after looking at the part I knew I could do the work and the price was very good so I bought it and installed it. Part came in a few ;days as promised so I am happy with A1 Auto
Only place I could find an unpainted version!

Works great, much lower price to buy it unpainted. I didn't even paint it - the back glass is black anyway - looks great.

If you have a 2008 gen Prius you already know how poor the design is on the lift gate handle. So glad I finally broke down and bought this. Now I can open the rear gate without ripping off the body panel. The fit is perfect just like the OEM part. Install took about 45 minutes and was relatively easy. Tip: watch a couple YouTube videos for some tips on making this an easy install.

This is the second liftgate handle garnish I have replaced. I like this better because this plastic liftgate handle garnish seems more flexible and less rigid than my first replacement. Only time will tell how long this one will last.

I had the same issue. It turns out the button is just a blanking panel that doesn't do any harm or give an exposure. I had the panel wrapped with carbon-fibre pattern in black rather than having it painted and it looks great. It was a ton cheaper and looks badass!
