How to Replace Front Brakes 07-14 Chevy Silverado Truck

Watch this video to learn how to fix squeaky or fading front brakes. The experts at 1A Auto show you how to replace the brake pads and rotors on your 07-13 Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra.

  1. step 1 : Removing the Wheel
    • Pry off the center cap with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Loosen the 22mm lug nuts with the vehicle on the ground
    • Raise the vehicle with a floor jack
    • Secure the vehicle on jack stands
    • Remove the lug nuts
    • Pull off the wheel
  2. step 2 : Inspecting the Brakes
    • Turn the rotor by hand or turn the steering wheel to turn the rotor
    • Check the thickness of the brake pads
    • Check the brake pad wear indicator
    • Check for gouges on both sides of the rotor
  3. step 3 : Removing the Brake Pads
    • Remove the two 19mm bolts from the brake caliper
    • Pull the caliper aside
    • Pry the brake pads off with a flat blade screwdriver
    • If only changing the pads, continue to Step 6 and install the new pads
  4. step 4 : Removing the Brake Rotor
    • Remove bolts from the brake caliper bracket
    • Pull off the brake caliper bracket
    • Pull the rotor off
    • If the rotor will not come off, douse the back side with penetrating oil and use two M10 bolts to press the rotor off
  5. step 5 : Installing the New Brake Rotor
    • Slide the rotor on
    • Thread on one lug nut to hold the rotor in place
    • Clean the caliper bracket with a wire brush
    • Remove the brake pad slides
    • Apply anti-seize fluid or white grease to the slides
    • Push the slides on with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Put the bracket back into place
    • Start the bolts by hand
    • Tighten the bolts to 100 foot-pounds of torque
  6. step 6 : Installing the New Brake Pads
    • Clean the rotor with brake parts cleaner or mineral spirits
    • Grease the brake pads
    • Install the new brake pads into the bracket
    • Put an old pad in the caliper
    • Use a large C-clamp and the old pad to push the pistons back
    • Put the caliper on
    • Thread bolts by hand
    • Tighten bolts to 50 foot-pounds of torque
  7. step 7 : Reattaching the Wheel
    • Slide the wheel into place
    • Start the lug nuts by hand
    • Tighten the lug nuts preliminarily
    • Lower the vehicle to the ground
    • Tighten the lug nuts to between 110 foot-pounds in a crossing or star pattern
    • Reattach the center cap
  8. step 8 : Testing the Brakes
    • Pump your brakes repeatedly until they feel firm
    • Test your brakes at 5 miles per hour and then 10 miles per hour
    • Road test the vehicle

Direct repayment and ceramics make you stop a lot faster than organic pads. Have had them for 6 months and can’t even tell that there is any wear after 5,000 miles. Brake feels firm, and no sqeaks with the pads. Rotors came oiled and perfectly machined.

I ordered all new front rotors and pads for my 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 4x4. The parts arrived within a few days of ordering. The parts fit to OEM spec at half the price than your local parts store. The dealer wanted $700 to do my front brakes, HA! I respectfully declined and went home and ordered them from 1A Auto. So easy, enter in the year and make of your vehicle and then decide what style of rotor and brake pad you want. They got delivered the next day and 2 days later I had the truck jacked up and was doing my own brakes. I've done it before so knew what I was doing but if you aren't sure there is a great video series on 1A Auto that walks you through it, what size bolts and the torque needed .... so easy.

After I placed my order 1A called me to let me know they didn't have pads in stock; they refunded me the cost of the pads, so I had to buy them separately at my local store, but that was no big deal. I used these to upgrade the front brakes on my 04 suburban. You need to have 17s to do this upgrade but for it being the same price as factory brakes I figure why not step them up a bit. The rotor is an inch bigger, pads are bigger, and with the hydroboost made a big difference in the stopping.

The only issue I had was with the ends of the pads where they are held in place. Out of the box the pad would not fit, they were too long and had to be ground down to fit properly. I struggled with the pad installation until I remembered that my mechanic had done this during the last brake job. All else was great...

I just purchased Rotors and pads for my 2007 Silverado 1500 from one a auto. The day I received my parts I also received an email with a video attachment of a step by step brake replacement for my truck. It told me exactly what tools I needed and gave the torque settings for reinstalling the calipers and caliper bracket. Their price was $30 cheaper than a previous company I would order from. I was so impressed with the step-by-step video that I’ve purchased other items for my truck and I’m looking forward to working on restoring this vehicle.

I was very pleased with my rotors and brake pads I had ordered from 1aauto. I bought my Chevy Silverado brand new in 2016 so this was the first brake job since it was new. I do most all my mechanic work on all my vehicles myself so I was very please the parts I received fit to a tee like a hand in a glove. I was having some vibration in my front end when I applied my brake but now thanks to 1aauto it is smooth as silk when applied. I will definitely use 1aauto in the future for my vehicle needs.
