How to Replace Front Brakes 05-10 Pontiac G6

Check out this video to see how you can replace the front brakes on your 05-10 Pontiac G6.

  1. step 1 : Removing the Wheel
    • Loosen the lug nut covers with a 19mm socket
    • Pry off the center cap with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Loosen the lug nuts with the vehicle on the ground
    • Raise the vehicle with a floor jack
    • Secure the vehicle on jack stands
    • Remove the lug nuts
    • Pull off the wheel
  2. step 2 : Inspecting the Brakes
    • Turn the rotor by hand or turn the steering wheel to turn the rotor
    • Check the thickness of the brake pads
    • Check the brake pad wear indicator
    • Check for gouges on both sides of the rotor
  3. step 3 : Removing the Brake Pads
    • Remove 14mm bolts from the brake caliper
    • Pull the caliper aside
    • Pry the brake pads off with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Remove the brake pad brackets
    • If only changing the pads, continue to Step 6 and install the new pads
  4. step 4 : Removing the Brake Rotor
    • Remove the 15mm bolts from the brake caliper bracket
    • Pull off the brake caliper bracket
    • Pull the rotor off
  5. step 5 : Installing the New Brake Rotor
    • Slide the rotor on
    • Thread on one lug nut to hold the rotor in place
    • Use a large C-clamp and the old pad to push the pistons back
    • Apply anti-seize fluid or white grease to the slides
    • Push the slides on
    • Remove the brake pad slides
    • Put the bracket back into place
    • Start the 15mm bolts by hand
    • Tighten the bolts to 65 foot-pounds of torque
  6. step 6 : Installing the New Brake Pads
    • Clean the brake pad brackets with a wire brush
    • Push the brackets onto the caliper bracket
    • Apply grease to the brake pad tabs
    • Install the new brake pads into the bracket
    • Put the caliper on
    • Thread bolts the 14mm by hand
    • Tighten bolts to 35 foot-pounds
  7. step 7 : Reattaching the Wheel
    • Slide the wheel into place
    • Start the lug nuts by hand
    • Tighten the lug nuts preliminarily
    • Lower the vehicle to the ground
    • Tighten the lug nuts to 100 foot-pounds in a crossing or star pattern
    • Reattach the center cap
    • Tighten the lug nut covers with a 19mm socket
  8. step 8 : Testing the Brakes
    • Pump your brakes repeatedly until they feel firm
    • Test your brakes at 5 miles per hour and then 10 miles per hour
    • Road test the vehicle

Excellent buy for the money

I would recommend using these absolutely if you are looking for a cheaper alternative for brakes rather than paying $300 for new pads and rotors at a part store.. I will say the new pads have a slight squeak when you first apply the brakes but that could just be newness wearing off stopping power is awesome and lumping the different products together is a great idea

First off, it has been years since I have done any wrenching beyond changing my oil. I am very pleased with A1 Auto, the ordering and delivery were seamless. When I pulled the old part I thought I had ordered the wrong part.. I called on a Saturday afternoon. The rep that answered was polite and conserned with my problem. After a minute of checking with their tech it turned out I had the right part. I was able to get the new hub installed. It looks like a good quality part. I order on live for two reasons. First the prices are better. The main reason is I just get better service than I do at the brick and motor stores.

I bought 4 rotors for my van. It took about three month for the front ones to get warped. I call customer service and they were able to send me a replacement for one wheel only when both the front were bad. I purchased the other one at the auto part since I had to inspect the car. Next time I would rather buy a better quality rotor the first time.

I took my car to a major chain garage and they gave me an estimate of $2,635 for rotors and brakes all around, front control arms, and sway links.. After realizing there was no way I could afford to have all of the work done by a garage without maxing out my credit cards I decided to shop around all of the usual online car part sites. 1aauto I started off with the rotors and brakes and saved so much money just on the parts price alone, the parts also have a video listed with them for the extra confidence I needed to do this myself. These brake pads are doing great. The rotors are holding up awesome in comparison to some I have had from local stores. It was nice to order online and we receive exactly what you need.
