After that, what we're gonna wanna do is go ahead and remove our negative battery terminal. The next thing that you're gonna wanna do is safely raise and support the truck, so your wheels off the ground, and you have access to get underneath it. We're gonna go ahead and pop off the center cover, remove the lug nuts, and remove the wheel. The next thing we need to do is remove our starter from the truck. To do that, there's a little cover over the power wire, just pop that right off over there. You're gonna see that you have a power wire here, another one right there, and then you have some ground wires over here. Let's remove them all.
So for us, it took out the whole bolt so what we're gonna do is separate this, so it'll be apart. Now that we have that lower bolt out, we're gonna continue on by removing the other two mounting bolts. If you were to look at the new starter, you can see where the bolt is that we had removed. The other two are gonna be located up above the solenoid, and then up a little higher. They're very hard to see, not something we can see with the camera. To get to the upper bolt, it's much easier if you just come in through the top here, with a pivoting a 1/4-inch ratchet, and a 13-millimeter socket. I'll put it right on the bolt, and then I use a nice pry bar just to kinda hold pressure on it while I remove the bolt.
All the bolts are out. Let's go ahead and grab that starter. There it is friends. All right. Now it's time to get the starter in. Now let's start in all of our bolts, and then we'll torque these to manufacturer specifications. To put in your upper bolts, it's gonna be easiest through the top, right up here. Once you get all of your bolts in finger tightened, go ahead and snug them up and then torque them to 18 foot-pounds. When you torque them, start with the top bolt, and then do the two lower bolts.
All right. That was the last one. Now, before we can reconnect our wiring, you wanna make sure that you have a nice clean mating surface, that way then you can get the most amount of power to your starter. And now it's gonna be time to get our wiring on here. The small wire, once you get it up on there, it's gonna be 44 inch-pounds. This next larger wire right here is gonna be 106 inch-pounds, and then this one wire right here, which is gonna be the ground is gonna be 18 foot-pounds. Let's get them all on there...put your washer, and of course, the nut snug this up and we'll torque it. So we have all our wires on. You can see, I have the larger of the power wires going right here, the smaller wire comes right up there, and then the ground wire is the one that goes right to the edge of the starter, and then, of course, connection to the transmission bell housing. Now let's get the wheel back on here, we'll snug them up and torque them to 150 foot-pounds. Torqued. Now, the next thing that we would wanna do is go ahead and reconnect the battery, then we're gonna start up the truck. You also wanna make sure you don't have a check engine light, and then down the road you go.

Okay friends, to start this job we first wanna talk about safety. You want hand and eye protection. Once you have both of those, we're gonna continue on by removing our negative battery terminal from the battery. Set that aside so it can't make contact. Now we're gonna get under the vehicle.
Underneath the passenger side of the vehicle, looking at the starter, you're gonna be able to see you have a stud with a nut, with a wire going to it, and then a smaller stud with a nut with a smaller wire going to it. We need to get both those wires off of there first. There's that nut, get that wire off of there. This wire off of here. There we are.
Moving along, we're gonna go ahead and get the ground wire off the bottom of the starter here. Nut off there. Now let's go ahead and get the wire off the stud. Get this stud off of here. There it is. Top bolt out, you're probably gonna need a short extension with a swivel, and then we should be able to get to it. All right. Let's carefully get our starter out of here. There it is, friends.
Now it's gonna be time to get our nice new starter up in here. Carefully slide it up and over here. We'll put it in and then we're gonna start in both of our bolts. Now that we have the bolts started, we'll snug them both down and then we're gonna torque them to 18 foot-pounds. Okay, 18 foot-pounds.
This part's gonna be super important. You're gonna make sure you wanna clean up your cables. This is gonna be the area that's gonna connect to the terminals on the starter. If it's corroded in any way, it's gonna cause restriction, and even make it so there's no voltage going to the starter. Clean up both sides of every wire that you removed.
Now that we have all our wires hooked up, let's go ahead and reconnect our ground first. Just put that right over the stud. We're gonna go ahead and put the nut on here. We're gonna snug it up and then we're gonna torque it to 15 foot-pounds. There we are. Now let's get our wires on there. I'm gonna start with the larger wire. Right on here like that and then of course, we'll put our locking washer and then our nut. So I got that snugged. You actually wanna torque this, if you could get a torque wrench in there to 9 foot-pounds. And the little one right here, once we get this on there, you torque that to 53 inch-pounds. All right, that's nice and tight.
Now let's just double-check our wiring to make sure it's not hanging down so it can get caught on anything. This looks great. Let's reconnect our negative battery terminal and make sure it's nice and tight. Give it a nice wiggle. Start the vehicle.
