How to Replace Radiator Cooling Fan Assembly 1994-97 Honda Accord

step 1 :Diagnose the problem
- If the AC fan doesn't turn on when the car is on and the AC is running,
- Check the AC fan fuse.
- If the circuit is fine, then the fan could be burnt out.
- If the fuse keeps blowing then your fan is shorting out.

step 2 :Disconnect the battery
- Use an 8 mm wrench to disconnect the negative battery terminal

step 3 :Remove the plastic skid plate
- Remove the seven 10 mm bolts and the push clips.
- To remove the push clips, pry up the center with a flat blade screwdriver and that will release the body of the pin.

step 4 :Remove the Radiator Fan
- Unbolt the 10 mm bolt using your socket and ratchet anchoring the radiator fan.
- Unclip the wiring harness connection to the radiator fan.
- Unbolt the four bolts anchoring the radiator.
- Remove the radiator fan, using the play in the radiator to work the fan out of the engine bay.

step 5 :Install the new radiator fan
- Finesse the radiator fan down in to place
- Plug in the fan to the wiring harness
- Hand tighten the 10 mm bolt to the radiator.
- Put the radiator back into place and bolt in the four bolts mounting the radiator.
- Tighten the radiator fan bolt.

step 6 :Re-install the skid plate
- Bolt in the seven 10 mm bolts
- Replace the push clips
- Push the clip in and press down the middle to secure the push clip.

step 7 :Reconnect the battery
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal

In this video, we're going to show you radiator fan replacement on this '95 Honda Accord, same as any '94 to '97 with the V6. The only tool you'll need is a 10 millimeter wrench and a regular screwdriver. When the car is running hot, you have two fans here, they do different jobs. This fan on the passenger side is your AC condenser cooling fan. This fan goes on whenever you have your AC on, okay. This fan over here is thermostatically controlled so that when your car starts getting warm, it will go on. If this doesn't go on as your car gets hot, what you want to check back here on the passenger side, you want to pull off this cover, it has two tabs that release it, okay, and you turn it this way and the two or three radiator cooling fan is right down here at the bottom corner.
This fuse, you pull it up and check it. Now, you can see that this little circuit is fine. You didn't see that broken or blacked spot in it. There are two possibilities in here. Your fan is burnt out which in that case, your fan wouldn't work but the fuse will be fine. You can replace that fuse and it would keep blowing and that means that your fan is shorting out and needs to be replaced. You got to start by disconnecting your negative batteries terminal. We're going to remove this plastic shield and that involves removing seven 10 millimeter bolts and two push pins right here.
Okay, the seven 10 millimeter bolts are, there should be one right up here but it's missing on this car, one there, one there, should be another one there and another one there and there might even be some push pins here if the car is altogether. This car has been apart a few times. Another one here which is missing again. One up in there. That's seven bolts and there's one push pin to the left and one should be there too. Okay, you will then pull this up, pull it down. For your radiator fan, I'm kind of on the driver side of the radiator and right here, there should be a bolt that you will loosen up, on this car, it's missing. Then over here, there's' a bracket where this transition line runs and be careful not to hit this line and damage anything but then there's another bolt right here, 10 millimeter. Just going to use a wrench to loosen it up a little bit. Okay, while you're up under here, here's the front of the car. This is the radiator here, here's the hose. Up in here is your connection for your radiator fan. I'm going to reach up there with both hands, it will probably block your view but I'm basically just going to press that button and unhook it. There's the plug. There's the button, you press it right there.
Okay, now there's four bolts that hold your radiator in, one here, here and then on the other side, here and here. We want to remove those bolts for a while just to move the radiator on to give us some flexibility. Okay, to remove your radiator fan, take out these two 10 millimeter bolts here. I'll take this hose, pull it out to here, pull them off the overhaul bottle. Okay, now you want to actually take your radiator, kind of lift it up and push it over just a little bit just to give you enough room, kind of get the stand assembly off. It's just kind of a matter of working it. Then you got the holes here, you got your overhaul bottle over here. Just pull it up. Then there's the battery box here as well. Okay there it is out of the car. Okay, you'll see here's from 1A Auto. It's going to bolt in on the same, the same dimensions. Got all the same hook ups and stuff and you're just going to plug in. It will plug there exactly the same as well. Okay, this one's actually working fine so we're going to install it back into the vehicle. Okay, just make sure you're going to plug it kind of towards the driver side and on the bottom. Okay, and work it down in there between the folks and the battery box and overhaul bottle on this side. I'm going pull my overhaul bottle over, push it down, push it down to the radiator hose there. I'm going to put my radiator hose back. I'm working it right in and down. Okay. You got to put the radiator back this way and it's in place.
Get these bolts in. Just start it a few turns, okay, that way if it's not in correctly up to the bottom, you can still move it around a little bit. Now we're going to take the radiator, make sure it's all centered and it's cushioned. When I say it's cushioned, I mean down here looking through the bottom, here's the mount and then there's a cushion in the radiator, the two mounts, there's a cushion in the radiator that goes down to these mounts. You just want to shake the radiator back and forth to make sure that your radiator's down in those mounts.
Okay, once you have that done, you can put your brackets back on top and start your bolts in and then tighten them up I'll get into a little fast forward here so that we can get through this. Okay, so I've got my, sitting down on here, I can tighten up this bolt. Since we're all set at the top, I'll set it right up. Okay, then we'll plug in our lead for the fan and if your car has it, this car doesn't, there's another bolt that goes in right here. We'll put this back up in place. Okay, I'm just kind of fast forward the hysteria from watching me struggle with this thing but it's just putting in the push pins and a few bolts, four to five that I have in my car but your car should have seven or eight.
Okay, once you get it all done in the bottom, you got to tighten these bolts at the top and everything is all set. We hope this helps you out.
