2001 Tundra - perfect fit and operation

2003 Tundra

Thanks to 1A Auto my Tundra is back on the road. I had the frame replaced by a local dealership. At that time they had to replace the rack and pinion and hoses because they couldn't remove the old lines without damaging them. After only about 12k miles the passenger outer seals began to leak badly. Lucky to get home before losing most of the fluid. I replaced the outer seals 3 times over the next 15k miles. Finally had to bite the bullet and replace the whole rack. I chose 1A Auto because I have had good luck with parts in the past. The price was good and I received it in less than a week during the Holidays. I am looking forward to the reliability of my Tundra once again thanks!

2003 Sequoia Rack and Pinion

Install was easy enough. Rack looked to be in good condition. Gave it 3 stars because after about 3 weeks, the steering wheel still has a difficult time straightening out after a turn. I have new tires, new outer tie rods and had an alignment done right after the steering rack install. Shop that aligned it said it may improve as new rack wears in, but couldnt say for sure.

Works like brand new. Knocking the steering column drop down shaft and knuckle off the old one was the hardest thing to do. With a foot long 1/2 drive extension you could really hammer up on that joint to finally win the battle. I would buy this product again.

Quality seems good. Installed myself. Packaging for shipping was not very good as box was torn up and unit was sticking out of box on two sides. I recommend you order new outer tie rods and the o-rings for power steering lines when you order this rack and pinion. Hopefully this unit will last a long time.

I am hoping the racks itself will last. I only have 14000 miles on this and had to replace the inner tie rod ends and the bushings. Also, the rack does not support a keyed lock ring for the new inner tie rod end so I will have to pull the boot back every once and a while to make sure it is not vibrating loose.

Is an alignment recommended after installation ?

Yes it is but after I put it in I never did and it was fine. If you see any abnormal wear on your tires you may want to go get it aligned.

Installed and filled but power steering line leaking at fitting. Not crossthreaded and its in tight. Still a steady flow coming out in between nut and line. Did not leak or anything happen before. Any suggestions?

If you are wondering if this is made by the same manufacturer that make Toyota brand parts, I'd have to say probably not. However, it hooked right up as if it was OEM and I've quite satisfied with this product on my 2006 Tundra for over a year now. Glad I bought it.

Yes you will need o rings for the power steering lines and bushings to connect it to the cross member.

I installed a bushing kit and a nylon sleeve when I replaced mine. Googled a video that had a lot of good information and very helpful with the swap out, hopefully this helps.
