Hi. How are you doing? I'm Mike Green. You got yourself a Suburban or Chevy or GMC truck. This in particular is a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban, same as 92 to 99 Chevrolet or GMC Suburban and pretty much the same as an 88 to 98 Chevy or GMC truck. What happens to a lot on these things is the power door locks go out. On this particular truck, this door, the actuator is not working anymore. When you lock and unlock the doors with the switch, they all lock of unlock except for this one. I'm going to show you how to fix that. It's pretty simple job.

First thing I got to do is remove the door panel. For this door lock actuator replacement, you'll need a Phillips head screwdriver, a regular screwdriver, a putty knife or a door panel clip tool, a drill with 5/16 drill bit, coarse bolts 1/2 inch long by an 1/8 inch and a Ratchet and Socket for those coarse bolts.

First, we remove these two Phillips head screws from the door pole. A little tip, if you get one that's a little tough, use a hammer and just tap the screwdriver a little bit and that will loosen it up and also drive the screwdriver down into the screw head. Move this door handle surround by using a screwdriver and just going around the four corners and it comes out. Here's the backside of your door panel and you see here the pins, they go on to these grunts. You could you want to pry and make sure you don't break. What you'll do is you'll break the plastic on the door panel; you want to be very careful. When you push your knife in, you want to push your knife in under here and pry like that. Really, you want to try and get it all the way right under there.

What you want to do is get your tool under there, slide it until you feel something then pull it out. Put it back in and force it underneath and then put your screwdriver underneath and then pop the clip. Repeat this procedure for all the clips around the outside edge of the door panel. Now all the pins are all loose. That goes up like that. Now you got to unplug your light, unplug your speaker and power window switch. You have a close up on exactly how this switch works and press on this little tab here and work it out. That tabs what hold it in and then on this, you'd be pressing down on a tab there and this light, you could just pull right out.

Okay. This plastic here is the water shield and you want to pull it out carefully. To remove our original, we've got to drill out these two rivets here. Let's have the door, it's positioned like this. There's a rod you have to pull down through here, goes up through there and it connects on to there. There's a connector that's connects unto there and you can take it out. Here's our original, here's our new. We're going to have to transfer this bracket unto the backside of that and I can also swap these dust cover unto here because this is a more complete dust cover. I've switched my bracket over and just going to mount them like this. I've put my dust cover on. I'm going to put it up in there, I'm going to clack this and I'm going to clack the electrical connection.

Now I've got it in, I've got the rod back up and you can see it's here and I'm going to use a couple of coarse threaded bolts rather than rivets. You had to really push and hold the bracket on the other side. It's in somewhat, I'm just going to test it now just to make sure. I'm going to move you over here. You can see our door lock right here, down the close position and it is working.

Put the other bolts in and then put the door pin back on. We've got our door lock actuator back in, we put the water shield up, we're ready to reinstall the door panel. First, we want to connect the speaker and the light and then push the window up through. The speaker first, pretty simply clipped on and the light, the same. There's our power window. We hook this on top, make sure that that's coming through and then we wind up a pin over the first one on top here and make sure this one over here is wind up and it is. Start pushing them in. Make sure all these are lined up. Make sure the bottom ones are lined up. Pull our switch up, install it, hold it back down in with one of our door handle around it. We install our two screws, tighten them up and we're done.

We've replaced door lock actuator, we got the door panel back on and the screws all done. Now, lock, unlock. Yay. That's it. Door lock actuator replacement on these GM trucks and SUVs, it's a pretty, pretty easy installation. Requires basic tools, the drill then you can do it.

We hope this has helped you out. Thank you very much. Be sure to visit www.1AAuto.com for all your parts needs.
