In this video we're going to be working with our 1996 GMC Sierra K1500. This vehicle is equipped with the 5.7 liter Vortec V8. We're going to be showing you how to remove your factory air filter and replace it with a K&N washable drop-in unit. This is a simple upgrade to your vehicle and uses all factory components.

Here are the items you'll need for this repair: new filter, flat blade screwdriver

Unclip your air box lid. There's another clip like this on the opposite side. Lift up at the fender and remove the lid. Your air filter will then lift up and out on this elbow here. You just pull that off.

You can see this one is not terrible, but it is pretty dirty. We're going to be replacing and upgrading it with a K&N drop-in filter available from 1A Auto. The advantage to this air filter is better air flow while still having superior filtration ability. This is going to mean your vehicle gets more air and cleaner air, helping it run more powerfully and more efficiently.

To install, we'll simply slide it back on just like our original filter and tighten down the hose clamps supplied with the kit with a flat blade screwdriver. Reinstall this channel in your air filter box into the channel in the elbow here. It locks in like that. Set the tabs into the back of the air box. Close it down and reengage your tabs. With any GM vehicle when replacing the air filter with an OE unit or upgrade, push the button on the air restriction gauge, so it knows you have a new filter.
