I'm going to open up the door so the dome lamp turns on. Say you're working on a door panel, working on something in the car, or you're at the lake and you know your kids are going to be going in and out of the car a lot, you just press this button and it automatically shuts your dome lights off. That way, you don't have to worry about it.

Then once you want your dome lights to work again, unclick it, and your dome lights will work. These vehicles have battery run-down protection, but it just protects further your battery from getting run too low.
