Hi. I'm Mike Green. I'm one of the owners of 1A Auto. I want to help you save time and money repairing and maintaining your vehicle. I'm going to use my 20- plus years experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1AAuto.com. The right parts installed correctly. That's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.
In this video we'll be showing you how to replace a side-view mirror on a 99 to 04 Grand Cherokee. Overall it's pretty easy replacement. Really the hardest part is taking the door panel off. You'll need a Phillips screwdriver, torque driver, a putty knife or door panel clip tool, flat blade screwdriver and a 10-millimeter wrench or socket and ratchet.
To remove the door panel, I'm going to remove this little plug here. Keep it exposed with a little Phillips screw back in there. Keep your screws around. Don't just be throwing them around like that. There's a little Phillips screw down here in the cup holder. Lastly, there is a Torx screw right in there. It's a T25 Torx screw. I put the driver in there. Sometimes it doesn't come out all the way, which is all right. We've just got to make sure that we don't let it fall on the ground and lose it when we take it apart. Next, there is a series of clips that hold the door. What I do is I take a this is just a putty knife wrapped in a little rag here and I insert it and I slide down until I hit a clip and then I pop it.
What you might need to do is if you find some of them are difficult, you can put the putty knife in to get to the clip. If you find it's difficult, pull the putty knife a little bit like this. Put a screw driver in there. Use a screwdriver to pull up. I've got most of the clips around the perimeter of the door. There are two clips still in here, which is kind of a matter of just carefully shaking the door. Once you have the door away, you've got there's my screw. Make sure we gather that.
Here are your rods for your door lock and handle. There are little yellow clips. Just fold those away. You might want to use the screwdriver to get them off. You pull the clips away and the rods come up and out. You have your harness for your power windows and everything. There's a tab right under here that you push up and then shake. There's your harness for your mirror. You're going to do that and the door panel is off. Once the door panel is off, it's pretty easy. You're just peel this pad away carefully. Underneath, there are three 10-millimeter bolts. I usually take the bottom two off first. While you're undoing the top one, just kind of hold the mirror. That's if you're concerned about your mirror. If your mirror is broken, maybe you don't hold it and just let it break more. Usually, this is stuck there a little bit. This car has these wind deflectors on it. Just pull the wind deflector a little bit. Push this harness plug through and your mirror is out.
Obviously installing it is just the reverse. Rest assured that obviously this mirror didn't need to be replaced. I'm just showing you how to do it. 1A Auto's mirrors are identical. They will bolt in just like the original and the plugs will be correct. You just put your bolts back on and tighten them back up. You get your bolts back on, and you want to tighten them up snug. They don't have to be crazy tight. Tighten them up and then plug your mirror back in and test it. Put the panel back on and you're ready to go. Just in the interest of time, I'm going to speed through putting the door panel back on. If you want to see this in real time, you can check out our other videos. Pretty much if you've got the door panel off, then you're probably going to be able to get it back on fairly simple, some clip, plug in the harnesses, put in some screws and you're all good.
