In 1929 a division in within Kiichiro Toyoda father’s company - Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, Ltd. (TALW) – was established, known as the Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, Ltd. Toyoda’s father, Sakichi Toyoda, had much success developing an automatic loom and, like his father, Kiichiro had a wild ambition to forge his own creation. With his newly formed division, Toyoda had the freedom to pursue a career in the growing automotive industry. After much research and touring of American companies, Toyoda created the first Japanese gasoline prototype engine. By 1935, the company had created their first prototype car known as the A1. In 1937, the name was changed from Toyoda to Toyota, and the new Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. was founded as a separate company from TALW. Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, Ltd. would later go on to become Toyota Industries Corporation and is still in existence today, making various machines and products such as forklifts. It is currently one of the core companies of the Toyota Group, as is Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., which is now known as the Toyota Motor Corporation.

Improvement was hard, though, especially after the Second World War, due to an insurmountable amount of limited resources and setbacks in Japan. Persevering through the tough times, Toyota continued to produce cars with its sights set on the American market. Unfortunately their first attempt flopped. With the idea that Americans desperately wanted two cars per household but could only afford one, Toyota entered the U.S. in 1957 with the hopes that their affordable alternative would set a craze.

Their car, the Toyopet, was anything but, but their relentless determination to improve resulted in one of the most popular cars in the world: the Corolla. Toyota was then able to globalize, and the company developed factories across the world while they continued to develop reliable cars. Today, Toyotas can be found all over the country and have a tendency to be the commuter’s vehicle of choice. But they do offer more than just a reliable sedan. Some of their other inventory includes minivans, trucks, crossovers and SUVs, hybrids, EVs, and more. As a leading manufacturer in the world, Toyota continues to develop and innovate in the industry. With its eyes on the future, Toyota continues to look out for consumer’s interest by delivering affordable vehicles well worth the price, and continue to be one of the most successful automakers in the world.
