Hi, I'm Mike Green. I'm one of the owners of 1A Auto. I want to help you save time and money repairing or maintaining your vehicle. I'm going to use my 20-plus years experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1AAuto.com. The right parts installed correctly: that's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.
In this video, we'll be replacing the fog light on a '99 Pontiac Grand Am, same as any '99 to '06 Grand Am. The tools you're going to need for this replacement are a flat-blade screw driver, pliers, and a 10-millimeter wrench.
To replace your fog light, you'll need to remove your headlight first. Let me show you that, real quick. There's just put the plugs up here on top of this trim piece, and you work the screwdriver down in them. Pull them. Maybe use your pliers. This is the other plug, here. Then you'll pull up this trim piece, and there are two tabs for the headlight. You want more detail on this, there's a headlight video you can watch. Pull up that tab; pull up this tab. The headlight comes out, and then you unhook all your lights on the back of the headlight. There's a plastic clip for the wiring harness back here. That should be pulled from this headlight, but you want to unclip it on a new vehicle. Then your headlight's out.
Now with your headlight off, you can see down in here, right there is the back of your fog light, where that white mark is. You can actually see, if I can get a good video of it, here. The camera's having a little trouble focusing. Right there, you can see one of the 10-millimeter bolts. Okay, so there are two 10-millimeter bolts. You want to remove those, and you can reach down in there also with your hand pretty easily, and you can see right here, this is the harness going down to it. You want to unplug it, and then you can pull the light out. I was able, I see, to dream up a little apparatus to get it. If you have this at home, it's a 3/8 adapter to a quarter-inch socket. That just allows me to get my wrench in here.
I'm finishing up pulling the bolts out. Here comes my fog light. Fit up through here, and unplug it here. Give it a try, pulling up through here. It won't come up through, so actually we'll go down, and pull it out from underneath. There it is, out.
Then obviously, to install, just reverse the procedure, put your fog light up in. Take one of your bolts; I'm going to leave it unplugged. It's easy enough to reach down there and plug it in. Find the hole, and start it in. Got one bolt started. I'm starting the other bolt. Then I'll tighten those up and plug it in. Of course, I'm using the luxurious air rathcet. I'm not going to tighten it with that. I never want to tighten bolts with power tools. You always want to tighten by hand, so you can tell how tight you're getting it. Tighten this up.
I'm going to take my harness, reach down in, and then you plug it in. This little locking tab actually does go on top. Plug it in; there it is. Once you have the fog light all bolted in and plugged in, then you can reinstall the headlight. Just in the interest of time, I'm going to just fast-forward through here. If you do want to see a detailed video on replacing the headlight, just check our other videos for the Grand Am headlight video. Okay, and thank you very much.
