Hi, I'm Mike Green. I'm one of the owners of 1A Auto. I want to help you save time and money preparing and maintaining your vehicle. I'm going to use my 20 plus years experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1AAuto.com. The right parts installed correctly, that's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.
In this video, we're going to show you how to service the headlights on this 2003 Saturn Ion, same as any '03 to '07 Ion four door sedans. You shouldn't need any tools but you may need a pair of pliers. Here's our sedan. Pretty decent looking care beforehand but you see a new set of headlights really brightens up the frontend. We'll do that one more time. Here's the before and the after. Like I said, new set of headlights really brightens up the frontend. Obviously if one of them is broken or something like that, you'll need to replace it. Actually, the original ones on this car aren't even that bad. If yours are faded, cloudy or dull, a new set of headlights is definitely the way to go.
You want to pop your hood. Up under here sideways. Lift it up. Pop it up. On top of the headlight there are little pins. You pull them to the side and pull them up and out. They're supposed to come out pretty easy but if you have one that's difficult use a pair of players to twist it. Then you can kind of just twist back and forth and pull up and out. You want to kind of push the headlight this way. You want to grab your headlight, pull it out some and pull the inside out first, and then pull it out. Right in behind there's a connector. Pull up on this tab and pull it off. That connector is supposed to be attached right here by a clip. The clip is so rusty it's broken, so it just broke away.
If you're just looking to replace bulbs, the headlights, you twist counter clockwise. The bulb is right here. You pull off your harness first and there's a ring inside. Twist that counterclockwise. Put that down. Twist that around and then the bulb and the ring come out. The bulb looks like its fine. Put the bulb back in. Make sure this catch for the harness is pointing straight up. Lock your ring back on. This bulb here, then counterclockwise. It's a little different. Two ears, again counterclockwise. This bulb just pulls straight out of the socket. The new one goes in. Back in place and I have to line up the tabs. Lock it on clockwise. Take this not going clockwise.
Here is your new light from 1A Auto. As you can see, it's much clearer than the old one. It still has the wrap on that. Take the wrap, just kind of peel it off on the corners and stuff. You can always wipe your fingerprints off of it afterwards. One more thing to check before you've installed it, you need to make sure that if your replacement has a door like this, this one has four tabs. Make sure if it has four tabs it's on the outside on the outer light. Make sure that your inner one only has two tabs.
Those covers do interchange so if you should happen to get a light that has four tabs on the inner cover just take and switch the covers.
Put the inside in first. Pull the grille out some. Reach in. Connect your harness. Put it in place. Get this out of the way. Push back and work it right in and lock it into place. Lock them in place. Push down on the bumper just a little bit. Take that plastic off. You're ready to roll.
