Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
We'll replace these hood struts and usually they start going bad in the wintertime. If you lift up your hood and it doesn't stay up, usually they start getting weaker when it's colder first. It's pretty easy. You'll want somebody to help you or just lift up your hood. Use a small flat blade screwdriver. There's a little clip here that you pry in and pull that clip off. Then let it down, holding up the hood and do the same thing down here on the bottom side. Get the little clip off and pull the strut off.
Obviously these are fine. New ones from 1A Auto are going to go on just like the originals. All they do is make sure that clip is pushed back in, and push the strut on, lift it up into place, and put it on that place right there.

Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
On the tailgate of your XC90, it's held up, when you put it up, by a couple of gas-charged shocks. You can see, actually, the tailgate on this vehicle is still fine, but we're going to take these off, put them back on, just to show you how to do it. Like I said, they're gas-charged, so if they get a leak, the gas will leak out of them, and then they'll cease to be able to hold up the tailgate, and you'll get a broom handle or something like that to help you out. They're very easy to replace. At 1A Auto we sell the replacements. I'll just take this one off. Our replacements go on just like the originals. You just need a small, flat blade screwdriver, and either somebody to help you out or your broom handle to hold up the tailgate.
There's a little clip here that you put your screwdriver down into, and you pry that clip out. Sometimes you need to bring it all the way out. The strut comes off. Do the same thing at the top. You can see the little slot. Lean over and see the little slot where the clip is. Pull that clip out, and it comes off. Now the tailgate is pretty heavy.
Again, my original one here is fine, so I'm going to put it back on. Make sure that clips back in. With these clips, if you need to put them back in, sometimes it's easier to load them right from the top. This has actually a little . we'll make sure that top clip is back in. This bottom clip we've got to load back on because we're just going to put this original one back on because it's working fine. Then, like I said, the new ones from 1A Auto, they work just like this. If you need to put the clip back in, it's easiest to just load it right from the top. Let's see, you just got to get one side in, stretch the other side over, and slide it down on. Then, very easily, take your new one from 1A Auto. Actually, this goes right up here and then you just pop it right on. You might have to lift it just a little higher to put that bottom one on.
If you have lifts that don't quite pull it up, I always do recommend that you replace them in pairs. If your lift struts are having trouble holding it up, we always recommend replacing them in pairs, because it's always hard to see which one is actually the one that's leaking, sometimes. Once you replace them, you're all set.

Hey friends, it's Len here at 1A Auto. Today we're working on our 2004 Volvo XC90 we're going to be doing some hood pistons. The pistons basically just hold up the hood, so when you're working under it, it doesn't come down in bonk in the head. Nobody wants to get hurt by it, especially twice in one day. So for now I'm just going to use these. I'm gonna hold that. Now what I'm going to do is I'm going to start over on the other side of the vehicle. The upper end of this has a little clip. We're just going to grab that, tried to pull it out, use a small screwdriver, just pry that clip out of there. I'm going to do the same to the lower side.
If you were just taking these off and you weren't actually replacing them, you don't have to pull the clip all the way out, but since I'm replacing them, I just took it out because it makes my life a little bit easier at this point. I'll just grab it and there's our hood shock. We'll go ahead and replace this.
So here we are friends, a quick product comparison for you. Over here we have our hood strut out of our 2004 Volvo XC90. This holds the hood up. Over here we have our brand new quality 1A Auto part. Both these parts are the exact same. You've got the mounting end here. You've got your piston cartridge. Of course the shaft that goes down into the piston cartridge and then the upper mount right up along the top. It has everything you need to make this work. I don't see any reason why this wouldn't be a quality part to install into the vehicle, so I'm going to go ahead and do it.
As always, if you need this or any other part, you can always check us at 1aauto.com. Thanks
Okay, so we have our brand new quality 1A Auto part. We're just going to go ahead and install it. To do that, you line it up with the ball down on the bottom. Give it a little push. I like to give them a little tug. It's not coming off. We'll grab this one, line it up with the ball and just push this in. Oops. There it is. Bonk, bonk. Everything's nice and secure. Now we can move over and do the same to the other side of the vehicle.

These supports work really well and are simple to install. I looked at a few different websites and A1 had them at a really good price. They arrived quickly. I just installed them so I don't know how long they will last but I am happy so far.

I recently purchased these lift supports for my 2005 Volvo XC-90 and would highly recommend them. The cost was minimal and they literally took me less than 15 minutes to install. I especially liked and used the 1AAuto youtube self-help video, which directly supported the removal and installation of these parts.

I ordered hood struts for my 2007 volvo xc90. The A1 auto hood struts appeared to be of better quality than Volvo's. I received my order two days after placing the order. I think the best part about it is they email you a short YouTube video tutorial on how to install the part. I dont know if that is the case for all orders, but it was great for me because I just decided to take on minor repairs myself. Great parts and even better service. I highly recommend this company.

The parts are well made and installed easily, and at 1/5 the cost of comparable parts from Volvo. The tailgate rods squeak a little and the tailgate has to be lifted up with some force because the pressure in the rods is substantial. I am sure this will level out over time. Good products and I would recommend them.
