In this video we're going to show you how to remove the side or rear view mirror on this 1986 Camaro IROC-Z, pretty much the same as any '82 to '92 Camaro Z28 IROC-Z as well as the Pontiac Trans Am, and then Firebird and Formula. Tools you'll need are T27 and T10 Torx drivers, medium and small sized flat blade screw drivers, as well as, I believe an 8-millimeter wrench, to remove the door panel. Then you'll need 7 and 10 millimeters wrenches or sockets and ratchet for removing the mirror itself, and the door panel clip tool. Some of these tools you won't need. If you notice the title is for the entire door disassembly. I'm not sure that you'll need the Phillips screwdriver, or pliers. You may want to have plastic bags and a marker to mark the hardware that you take apart.
There are two Phillips screws to remove so you can pull back the top of the weatherstrip right here. Then right into here, you'll see the little hole in the weatherstrip, and you can remove the screw and you peel that back. I pull the screw out here so I don't lose it.
Then you're going to pull your shield back, and you need a 10 millimeter socket ratchet with extension, with two 10 millimeter bolts here to remove. We'll just speed it up here as we remove those two 10 millimeter nuts. They're on the top of the little bracket that's attached to that triangle seal, and the front window channel. Then once you've removed those two 10 millimeter nuts, there's two 10 millimeter bolts here to remove.
Once those are removed, once this is right, twist it correctly here. Put this on first. This screw comes out. Okay, you can see that your mirror is held in by two, let's see, two 10 millimeter nuts right there. So I'm going to speed it up here as I remove those nuts. You may notice that the outer window sweep is off the car. I did that because I was kind of doing a series of videos as we take this car apart and repaint it and put it back together. If you're just looking to replace your mirror, you don't need to take that window sweep off. You can get to these bolts easily enough with it on the car still. Once those two nuts are done, take your mirror off.
Now this clip is from later after I've taken more stuff apart. Basically I just want to show you that when you take things apart, especially in this case where this car, we're going to take it all apart and then get it painted, I do things like I took the mirror off and then I put the nuts back on so I can find them. I put the bolts back into the track, the little triangle pieces on, and put things back together. Then, I took little bags and clearly marked them as far as maybe the door panel hardware, or some of the window hardware, and things like that. Then like the little door handle bezel that you can see underneath my hand there, all in black, I reassembled that with the switches and stuff. I just put things back together so that when you're ready to put the car back together, you can find all the bolts and nuts and everything. It makes it a whole lot easier when you go to put the car back together.
