Brought to you by 1AAuto.com, your source for quality replacement parts and the best service on the internet. In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the front hub, the front manual locking hubs on this 2003 F250. Obviously we'll show you one side. The other side is the same procedure. In a perfect world, the only tool you'll need is a flat blade screwdriver or pry bar to get your center cap off and you can theoretically take the hubs in and out without tools but the pliers will help. You'll want a wire brush to clean things up before you reassemble it, some bearing grease, and on our truck, it's a Northeastern truck so rubber mallet or penetrating were necessary to get it apart.
I'll need a flat blade screwdriver or a pry bar, it doesn't have to be this big and there's a slot back in the back and I'll pry them and the next one pulls right off. Okay, obviously you'll notice that the wheel and the breaks are missing. This is just because I did this, I shot this footage while doing another project so we do not need to remove the wheel and tire or anything to be able to switch your hub.
Okay, just stick your finger or you can use pliers obviously but you just kind of pull that snap ring, press it together, pull it right off. Okay, now in a perfect world, that hub should just pull right out but this truck is from the Northeast and it's not a perfect world. You can see my hub's got a lot of corrosion on it. I'm going to douse it with penetrating oil and let it sit for a while. After letting the penetrating oil sit for a little, rubber and mallet, hit the hub from side to side and just keep doing this, hit it with penetrating oil again and hit it with a rubber mallet and eventually start to loosen up.
We'll fast forward here. As you can see, I'm just kind of working it with the rubber mallet up and down, back and forth. I'll try it with the hands to see if it will pull out then keep working it. Okay now, use a wire brush and you'll just pry hub, it will go back together well. Okay, a little bit of compressed air. Okay, new hub from 1A Auto, put it in. Push it in. It does have a new o-ring so it will require just a little bit of force to seat the o-ring. Then put it, it snaps in. And replace your center cap.
