Hey, friends. It's Len here at 1A Auto.
Today I want to show you something super cool. I want to show you a fuel tank retaining ring tool. This is adjustable, and it's super neat because a lot of times when you're doing a fuel pump on a vehicle, you have your gas tank down on the floor, you're ready to get your fuel pump out of there, but you've got this plastic ring on there. And you try to grab it, you try to twist it and you're trying all these sorts of things. Maybe even a little punch with a little hammer, bonk, bonk, bonk. And it just won't break free, right? Because all you're getting is one side, and your hand strength just can't break it free. That's why we sell this tool right here.
It's got these little prongs, okay. And it's got this. These go into the slots right here, and they can adjust around where that ring is, and they grab right onto the lips. You tighten them down once they're adjusted to where you need them. And then the center hole right here is a three-eighths ratchet, or you can use this adapter and use a half inch ratchet if you need something a little lengthier or girthier to grip onto.
So this is going to give you a lot more leverage to get that ring off, which a lot of times is really stubborn. People have a hard time with it. You can go ahead down to 1aauto.com and scoop up this tool, no problem. Easy peasy.

Junk with a capital J
J

Worst piece of Chinese junk, you could possibly buy. It was bent, had numerous sharp burrs, and did not fit the locking ring it was intended for. Everything was chrome plated even the bad burrs. Buyer beware of this item, it is useless.
Nice tool

It's a bit fiddly, the twist socket likes to unseat instead of pulling the whole tool away from the job and the slides need a good tightening or they will wobble, but it worked just fine for the job ('00 Corolla).

Glad I bought the wrench, that old fuel pump cap was on tight, and being plastic, I wouldn't have wanted to damage it getting it off. Had to put on the breaker bar and use gentle taps with the mallet to get it to break loose. But eventually started spinning and ring was not damaged for re-use.

I was concerned about possibly having to use a hammer and chisel to remove the lock ring. The lock ring tool worked extremely well. Loosening and tightening the nut with this professional tool makes that part of the job a breeze.
Great tool to have on hand

This item will not include a gasket nor do we offer it. The original gasket will need to be used or a new one would need to be sourced locally.
