Brought to you by 1AAuto.com, your source for quality replacement parts, and the best service on the Internet. Hi, I Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out. The next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video we're going to show you how to replace an exterior door handle on this 2006 Jeep Liberty. It's the same part and process on these vehicles from 2002 to 2007. We show you on the driver's side, but the passenger's side is a similar procedure. The items you'll need for this is a new exterior door handle from 1AAuto.com, flat blade screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, a 10 mm socket and ratchet, and T20 and T30 Torx bits. Start off by prying out this little panel behind your door handle. Now remove this Phillips screw, and this one down in your pole cup. We'll just fast forward as Don does this. Now pull out around the door panel to release the clips. When you get to the top, pry the door panel out. Once the clip pops free, pull the door panel up and off. On the back of your door panel, you want to release the clip on your door handle rod and pull the door handle rod down and out.
Then you want to push the tabs on both harnesses and release them. Now you want to remove the speaker. It's held in by these 3 Phillips screws. We'll just fast forward as Don removes those. Once you remove all three bolts, pull the speaker forward, push on the tab on the harness, and disconnect it. And then you just remove your water shield. You want to just carefully peel that off the door and pull the harnesses and your door handle rod through it. Ours was a little bit easier because it had been removed before. Take your time not to damage it. Up here on the back of your door handle, you can see there's a clip connected to the door handle rod. You want to just pry the clip off with a flat blade screwdriver and then pull that rod free. Down here there's another rod with another clip on it. You want to just push that clip off and then pull the rod out. Now on the back of the door handle there's a 10 mm nut there and a 10 mm nut right there. We'll just fast forward as Don removes those. Next remove these two T30 Torx bolts. Pull the door handle back and then angle it out of the door.
Right here you want to remove these two T20s and the one T30 bolt. Now remove the lock and put it into your new door handle and replace that T30s and those two T20s. We'll just fast forward as he does this and tightens them up. Just to show you a comparison, on the right is the old door handle; on the left is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical, and they'll mount exactly the same. Feed the new door handle back into place. Open the door and angle it back in. We'll fast forward as Don replaces those two T30 bolts. Now you want to push that lower rod back into place and re-clip it. It's hard to show but you also want to re-clip that upper rod. We'll fast forward as Don replaces those two 10 mm nuts. You want to put the nut just into the socket, feed it into place onto the stud, and then tighten it up. We'll fast forward here as he puts the door handle rod, the lock, and the harnesses back through the water shield, and then pushes the water shield back into place. Reconnect your speaker and line it back up, and replace those 3 bolts. We'll fast forward as Don does this and tightens them up. To replace your door panel, push the harnesses back into place. Push the door handle rod back into place and re-clip it. Then line your door panel up, and push it down onto the window sill and over that lock. Now make sure your clips are lined up and hit them in around the door panel. We'll just fast forward here as Don replaces those two Phillips screws and replaces that little panel behind the door handle.
