Brought to you by 1AAuto.com, your source for quality replacement parts and the best service on the internet. Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this helpful video helps you out. The next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to be showing you how to replace the front struts on this 2007 Mazda 3 series. We'll show you the right hand side, left hand side is the same procedure and obviously we always recommend that you replace your struts in pairs. You'll need a new set of loaded struts from 1AAuto.com, jack and jack stands, 13 to 19mm sockets, ratchets and a breaker bar or pipe for some extra leverage, a couple of the bolts are pretty tough, flat blade screwdriver, locking pliers, a large hammer, 5 or 10 pound sledge, penetrating oil and a torque wrench.
Start off by removing your wheel and tire. There will be a hub cap so you'll remove the hub cap first. We have the benefit of air tools. If you're not using air tools, you'll want to loosen the lug nuts with the vehicle on the ground first then raise and support the vehicle and remove the lug nuts wheel and tire. We're going to apply some penetrating oil to the bolt that holds the lower strut and as well as the upper bolt for the stabilizer link. There is a clip that holds the break hose into the strut, now use a screw driver to pry that clip out. You can pry from the side first and then kind of pry up from below and pull the clip out.
Once you remove the clip, just pull the hose free. Now, take a pair of vise grip or locking pliers and lock it onto the back side of the stabilizer shaft and then there's a 14mm bolt and remove that with a 14mm socket and ratchet. Now, there's a 17mm bolt that holds the steering knuckle to the strut. You see I'm using a 17mm socket and ratchet and a pipe for some extra leverage to loosen up that bolt. You need to make sure that you spray that bolt with a lot of penetrating bolt beforehand to help this process along. Okay, we just shed that extra pipe and removed the bolt the rest of the way.
I'm going to coat with penetrating oil around the bottom of the strut where it goes with the steering knuckle and then use a nice, big sledge hammer and just hit the steering knuckle directly at first. Once you get it to move then put a piece of wood in just so you don't do too much damage to the steering knuckle and use the wood to hammer it the rest of the way off. There are three 14mm bolts that hold the strut in at the top, remove those. One note as we fast forward here, you want to remove two of the bolts and then just loosen up one of the bolts most of the way. You want to leave one bolt intact.
Okay, with one bolt still up top installed, push down on the steering knuckle and break the bottom free. Now, finish removing that top bolt and bring the strut down and out. Old strut on the left, new strut from 1A Auto on the right. You can see all the mounting points are the same. It's going to install just the same. Okay, ready to install the new strut. There's the stabilizer link mount that goes right to the back, easy way to line it up. Put the strut up in and then start one of the bolts on. It's just a matter of lining it up. Once you have one of the bolt holes lined up then start the bolt on. Once you get one, you can start the other two. Now, just fast forward. We're not tightening them up all the way, we're just kind of preliminarily tightening them up.
Now, we're ready to put the bottom back together, put some penetrating oil or grease in then in hope to get things together. Push the steering knuckle down. Line them up with a strut and push it in. Once you started, put a floor jack underneath the spindle and jack it up and that will force the spindle or the steering knuckle up onto the strut. Now, you can put the bolt through. It will only go through if the strut is together enough. We'll fast forward here as we just preliminarily turn or preliminarily tighten that bolt up. Now, we'll use a torque wrench and tighten that bolt up to 80 foot pounds.
Bring the hose down, feed it through and back and up into position and put the clip back in place. Then fast forward here as we put that stabilizer link back in place. Thread the nut on, put the locking pliers on the back side and tighten it up, get it nice and tight, you want it anywhere from 50 to 60 foot pounds. Then keep the speed going here as we put the wheel and tire back on. Thread the log nuts on and tighten them up preliminarily. Okay, and back on the ground we've tighten the log nuts to 100 foot pounds using a star pattern. Reinstall the wheel cover noting the position of the valve stem. Now, we're going to tighten and torque the upper bolts to 25 foot pounds and repeat all that for opposite side and we should be all set with nice new struts.
We hope this helps you out. Brought to you by www.1AAuto.com, your source for quality replacement parts and the best service on the internet. Please feel free to call us toll-free, 888-844-3393. We're the company that here for you on the internet and in person.

Nice parts, careful of the 'do it yourself' videos
Gregg
March 7, 2017
Solid parts, fast shipping, good packaging.
First, understand that my auto repair experience is limited to a '72 charger that I rebuilt about 25 years ago. That said, I never did replace the suspension parts. This was my adventure into front wheel drive suspension. After fumbling around for about 7 hour with the first strut, I now consider myself a bit of an expert. Once I figured out to hold the drive shaft in place during the replacement process everything went VERY smoothly. The help video created by 1AAuto left out two rather important details. One: make sure you hold some constant pressure against the rotor assy when you knock off the old strut and remove it. Your drive shaft can and will fall out of place. You will know this happens when the protective boot of the drive shaft is stretched out. Two: the top, three bolt plate of the strut rotates. My parts arrived with this plate rotated 180 deg out of alignment, and I spent a half hour being really pissed off they sent
Great parts and excellent tech support!

August 19, 2017
Watched 1aauto's video on how to replace these struts and had no toubles what-so-ever installing them. I had never attempted it b4. I had always took my cars to somebody to have it done and spent hundreds & hundreds of dollars in the process. On my particular car we were quoted $600 to $700 + cost of parts. Cost me $139.99 for the struts from 1aauto and in 2 1/2 hours of my time, wheels were on the ground and ready to roll. You might be able to do it quicker but I'm an old guy and I did it. Thanks 1aauto!

These are a great replacement, perfect fit, excellent installation guide on the site page. Faster than quoted shipping and a near perfect experience. The only issue I had is the brake line hose bracket. We could not get the fitting and clamp to fit and even double checked it on the originals. The opening is too small for it to fit. No big deal, we ran the line through the slot, it is not clamped or snug but really cannot go anywhere or be damaged by anything.
Great service and delivery

December 21, 2017
The Shock Strut assembly is high quality and arrived in advance of the expected date. The only issue is on the bracket that holds the brake line the diameter of the slot is TOO SMALL for the brake line fitting that accepts the metal plate clip to hold the line to the bracket, so I had to use other method to secure. It is NOT the same as the original equipment.
The video ought to mention to be careful the CV strut does not get dislodged so it is too long when you try to insert the strut into the AArm.
Easy install

Parts lined up with factory parts and installed per the video once I figured out how to get the center piece to line up correctly. 2nd side went a lot faster. Made a fabulous difference on the car.

September 18, 2018
The struts came exactly when they said they would. My issue is that the clip for the brake line was to small and needed to mess with it to get the line to fit. Also the part that slides into the hub was crooked and needed to be adjusted to fit. Other than that the struts were a great replacement and the ride quality is nice.
No stress deal

August 21, 2019
I bought aftermarket parts that didn't do anything to help my ride and thank goodness for 1aauto. These struts helped my ride feel 100% smoother and the quality of the parts is just as OEM. They will probably deliver parts separately if they are too big, like this pair, but they helped me out tremendously when I needed to return a part I realized I didn't need. Overall, I will continue to trust 1aauto to fulfill all my part shopping needs.

Rides good, sounds bad
G
November 26, 2019
At first I was impressed with the firmer ride and not having my car bounce down the road after hitting a bump. Then after a couple hundred miles I began to hear a faint noise after every small bump in the road or expansion cracks in pavement or concrete. The noise became louder and louder with miles.
I have over 1,000 miles on them now and the noise seems to remain very consistent. Over lots of imperfections in the road it seems like chatter. The noise isnt made on the compression but is heard on the rebound, when the spring/strut is returning to its full length. Ride quality seems like a 5 star compared to my worn out original struts with 166k miles but these struts sound like bad struts. The springs are fine but the dampening could be improved.
For the sound alone I would give these complete struts one star. Installation wasnt too bad and the video online from the A1 site was very helpful.
Parts fit, grease required
I
December 6, 2019
I would give these parts 5 stars but Im taking one off because of the video instructions:
The part fit as intended and the video was very informative. However, what the video doesnt show or use is GREASE. Trust me on this, the whole installation goes a lot faster using grease.
The first strut, without grease took 4hrs.
After using grease the second took 30min, if that.
Use grease, youll thank me later
Rough install, but better than paying someone to do it

First time installing front struts, but fairly comfortable doing these sorts of things. Parts were great - only issues were the top bolts were too short (I kept the originals), and one side had a really tough time sliding in to the knuckle, even with lube. Once I fought them in to place, they worked out great.
Great replacement

September 8, 2020
Great replacement for the stock struts/springs in my 2010 Mazda 5, which were clunking bad at 188K miles. Replacing them was was easy and not too long (my coworker and I never did this before). The only issue we had was the bolts that came with the units were short compared to the stock Mazda bolts. So we reused the old bolts and it works.
It just needs to come with longer bolts.
No BS

October 23, 2020
So let me start off with saying this may be my first or maybe second review ever... Generally I am one to run to one of the local auto parts stores after I hit YouTube for a quick refresher on the job I am doing. Inevitably I choose the 1aauto videos because somehow the almost always have the year/make/model vehicle Im working on. This time I did just that and thought... they do such a great job on videos, let me see if they are around the same price and Ill kick them some business. 1aauto was cheaper and shipping was only like 3 days.. struts got here and once I pulled one off the car they were identical to the OEM one. Extremely satisfied with 1aauto and will continue to use them in the future.

November 25, 2020
Ordered the strut and spring assembled set only days ago and received them in a quick and timely manner. Was a little worried at first whether or not these parts were as good as the original 2008 Mazda 3 parts...They were right down to the measured coil thickness. Overall and allthough the most difficult part of the job was getting the strut into the knuckle, it all worked out. I'm very happy with the parts and ride.

June 22, 2024
My mechanic was impressed with these. He reluctantly agreed to let me provide the parts-citing quality issues in the past from other customers. I barely drive 100 miles a month, so they should last as long as I do. We will see. The top mount bearings of my old struts dried out and it was the same cost to just replace the whole thing. My Mazda 3 build is such that it didn't require an alignment afterwards. The shop I use does them, but said no need. The ride is much better and the noise is gone.

September 17, 2024
Part fit perfectly and was visually identical to my old, blown struts. Garage quoted me ~$1000 to fix both front struts. Watched the video and bought the part. Watched the video again (plus a few others on YouTube) and talked to a buddy who has way more tools and a floor jack that said I could borrow them. Took me about 4 hours but got it done! Needed a second set of hands for a few parts but aside from that I did it myself. I don't work on cars. I'm not a car guy. I just can't justify spending $1000 on a car that I've neglected to the point where I probably wouldn't get $1500 for it if I traded it in. 1aauto's video gave/showed me the information quickly and easy for me to fix it and save myself almost $700.

The sound you hear, is it while driving forward the most or while turning to the right or left do you hear the clunking sound? What you described appears to be the transaxles. If in the turn towards one side the loudest. Your CV Joint either the inner or outer CV joint is worn out and binding on itself. Check to see if the CV boots are cracked or torn. Loss of gear lube is gone.
