I want to help you save time and money repairing and maintaining your vehicle. I'm going to use my 20 plus years of experience repairing and restoring cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1AAuto.com. The right parts installed correctly, that's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.
In this video, we'll be replacing a fog light on this 2001 Nissan Maxima. This process is the same for any 2000 and 2001Maxima. This is a pretty easy installation. All it requires is a 10mm wrench and a flat blade screwdriver. You do have to remove the headlight. We do have a headlight video so you can see that to see how to remove the headlight. Pretty easy, a couple of 10mm bolts and then basically pull it out. You remove the headlight so you can access the fog light. Your probably could access it from the bottom but we found this easier and a little easier on the back too.
Okay, you have the headlight out. Now, to access the fog light, you can see right here, that's the back of the fog light, okay. Then I got a 10mm wrench in my hand. I'm going to put that down for one second. What you want to do is reach down underneath the fog light and you'll feel where my fingers are down there. You'll see a 10mm bolt right there. You want to use this 10mm wrench to take that bolt out. I guess it's possible that you can probably pull some of the plugs and get to it from the bottom but for most people I think, getting to it from the top to the headlight is the better way. The headlight is actually pretty easy to get off.
I'm getting my 10mm bolts out. Okay, there it is. Okay, now what I'm going to do is I'm going to take this hand, as you can see there's a little indentation for me doing it there and I'm just going to push the back of the fog light until it comes out. It actually just pops right out. At this point, what you're going to do is change the bulb. This is where I would do it and then I'll show you why. You want to have this fog light out of your car because really, to get all these stuff, it's really tough for the back in there. Now you can see. I'll pull that out. You need a little walking wire there and once you pull that out, all of the bulb will finally come out and you can replace it. It looks like we're going to replace it.
I will just pull this connector out. Okay, then you can replace the bulb which is probably what I'm going to do. To do all that back in there and not being able to see it, I don't think I can recommend it. It's really easier to just pull everything out and be able to see it, get it back all in and you push that in and lock it. When you put this back on, twist it to lock it. Okay, you can see I've got the connector out and for some reason, they felt it was necessary to make it near impossible. What you need to do is this looks like a little thumb tab, you need to press in on that really good. I'm going to use a little screwdriver and that what locks it all together. Press it on that and it comes off.
I do it this way. I find it easier to pull the way out and try and get that out rather than trying to sit with your back inside the bumper where there's no room to reach anything with your hand. Now, you can see the new light from 1A Auto. Nice and bright, not all pitted like this one but everything is all the same, all the tabs and everything. It will plug right in, it's even aimed somewhat well. We're going to put this right in. First, take our connector and plug that in. Sorry about the hair. That plugs right in. I'm going to take this and put that on there and then it just pushes back in. Okay, now I'm going to put the bolt in.
Now I'm taking my bolt, reaching down and underneath and as long as that light's pushed in there, I can feel it, the bolt starts pushing up into the hole a little bit and start turning it and it's going. At this point, I'm going to take off the plastic here. I'm going to tighten that bolt up and put the headlight back in and we're good to go. Got it installed and the lower bolt tightened up. Quick test. It works, nice and bright.
