In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the radiator fan on this 1998 Honda Civic with the 1.6-liter, 4-cylinder engine. It's the same process on these cars from 1992 to 1998.The items you'll need for this include a new radiator fan from 1AAuto.com, jack and jack stands, pliers, a 10mm socket, a ratchet, and a flat blade screwdriver.
Disconnect your radiator overflow hose and pull the overflow reservoir up and out. Then, using a pair of pliers, push the teeth together on the hose clamp on the radiator hose and slide that clamp back. Now, you want to remove the upper radiator hose. We use a flat blade screwdriver. You can do this, just be careful not to damage the hose. Just move it up and down, and eventually it will slide off.
Next, disconnect your radiator fan harness. Next, you want to remove these two 10mm bolts at the top of your radiator fan. You can use some penetrating oil to help if they seem difficult to get out. We'll fast-forward as Don removes these.
Next, there's a series of 10mm bolts. There's one right there, one here, there, and right there. You want to just remove these and pull that panel back and out of the way.
Next, you want to go under your car. In between these two smaller hoses, you'll see these two 10mm bolts holding your radiator fan to the radiator. You want to go ahead and remove those. Now you can pull your radiator fan up, and out.
Take your new radiator fan and lower it down into place. Replace those two 10mm bolts along the top. You want to just tighten those up. Do the same with the two 10mm bolts on the bottom of the radiator fan. Reconnect your radiator fan harness. Push your upper radiator hose back into place.
Using your pliers, slide that hose clamp forward. You want to put that lower panel back into place. Replace those four 10mm bolts. Then tighten up your drain. Then push your coolant reservoir bottle down into place. Then replace the hose.
