The original handle broke so I ordered this handle as a replacement and it fit correctly. I found that one of the reasons that it broke was that the moving parts, the part that engages on either side etc. must be lubed or you put too much pressure on the handle and it breaks. The part fit correctly and looks great. Only about a 15 to 30 min project to install.

I was hesitant to purchase anything on line without holding it in my hand at a store, but after asking what Toyota would charge me, I decided to 'go for it.' A-1 Auto cost was low, value appeared great, and installation of tailgate handle was not complicated after I watched an On Line Video. Very satisfied with my product; it is working just super, and probably saved me $ 150 bucks had I purchased it from Toyota.

A friend asked why I didn't go get what I needed from a junkyard. I had already ordered the latch and thought I had made a mistake. Now I realize there is no way I could've beat this price and quality if I'd gotten something used someplace else. Not sure how much the yard would've charged me, but it couldn't have been much less than I paid here. It arrived exactly when they said it would and it went in with no trouble at all. I'll be buying parts from here again if I need any in the future.

The latch filled the bill and looks very smart on the vehicle. Just one observation, in that the clip holding the lock tumbler does not seem aggressive enough to keep it from wobbling when in place. Lock functions but moves around a bit. I will continue to use 1A for my parts. I trust the way they do business.

Arrived very fast, had it installed in a few minutes and it worked perfectly. 1A Auto's video also helped a lot. As a side note I had to re-bend the existing linkage arms a bit to tighten the mechanism so the gate would open smoothly, but that was not a failing of the handle. It was the result of 16 years of opening and closing the tailgate.

The video made the change out easy! This door latch was for a 2006 Tundra with extended cab. Initially the product would not seat flush. Looking at the old latch, I could see some plastic trimmed or cut on the inside. I did the same with the new latch and had a good fit.

My Toyota tailgate latch broke, and I contacted my local dealer and was told that the latch would cost me around one hundred and sixty dollars. I did a internet search and found 1AAutos had a latch for a third of the local dealers price. I ordered the part and it was shipped that day. At the moment I have one bolt of the pair that I need to replace. One bolt holding it in until I locate one. This would be an even better product if they would include the 2 bolts threaded into the replacement handle. It makes sense that the original bolts are at the end of life if the replacement handle is necessary. All in all, great part, great video.

Part fit perfectly and, with one minor issue, was very easy to install. Video was clear and made it easy to install. Honestly, start to finish, less than 30 minutes. Only minor glitch was transfer of the lock core (which never use, but didnt want to leave a hole). The clip on the new part did not want to lock the core in (seemed like it didnt want to seat properly). Used clip from the one I removed, worked perfectly. I did not contact 1A, so it is possible they could have quickly resolved the issue within part scavenging. With an 18 year old truck at 200000 miles, I am keeping 1A at the top of my go to list for repairs.

Good product. Works great. I had some trouble installing - You really need to pay attention to the bottom portion of the handle as you place it into the tailgate to make sure it's snapped into place correctly. It's easy to get wrong and the install video sort of glosses over this step.

I watched the video and it helped. The old one came out easy and the new one went right in. After screwing in the bolts in the new one and reattaching the rods to the retainers, I checked function, latches and lock cylinder all good, and sprayed LPS on the ends of the rods and latches. I screwed in the cover and bed liner, closed the tail gate and checked function again all good again. The entire removal and reinstall took about twenty minutes from start to end.
Fast shipping and a good quality product. The video was useful.

Ordered the tailgate handle and received it in about five days. When I installed it, it didnt fully retract the lock, so the tailgate wouldnt open. I called, and, with absolutely no hassle, after I explained the problem, the representative immediately apologized, and offered to send a replacement at no charge. She didnt want the old one back either, so I wasnt inconvenienced by having to pack it up and take it to the post office. The new one arrived in a couple days, and works fine. I also have to say the lady who took my call, and whos name I regrettably forget, was terrific. The customer service was second to none. They initially sent me a defective part but resolved the problem immediately, with no questions or hassle. Ill use them again.

The part fit and worked great but had issues with the key part, I had to file back the part where the ring catches as it was slightly longer then the plastic part, so it wouldnt hold the key part in.

The handle arrived well packaged and fit exactly. Some folks had a problem getting the original lock to fit, but my 2001 Tundra lock slid in perfectly. Beware, that the switch on the new unit may be set in the lock position, and if you attach your old lock without switching it before you install it, you may think it does not work, when it is only locked. I recommend this handle. It seems a little lightweight, so as far as long time durability, I do not know, but it works well now.

The part fit correctly but it seems the screws didn't line up perfectly so it sits unevenly and the clip that holds the locking mechanism failed to keep it in place when I went to test the lock after assembly. Handle works fine just wish it was better, each of my half dozen or so other parts from here have been satisfactory so A1 gets the benefit of the doubt but I wish my truck was closer to the factory look and feel without these minor flaws

The new latch appears to be good quality. Too soon to tell how it will hold up but time will tell. My truck is 23 years old. The plastic handle fractured where it changes a lifting hand motion into sideways pulling movement of the two rods that activate the bolts at the edges of the tailgate. I suppose if I can get another 23 out of this replacement part I'll be in good shape. I've had good luck with parts from 1A Auto in the past, so I bypassed the cheaper Ebay versions in favor of this one. 1A Auto's Youtube video on the task really helped to take the mystery out of it.

Do your have the locks that the handle controls on the tailgate?

Randy - 1A Auto sent me your question because I recently replaced my Tundra tailgate handle. I was not replacing the lock cylinder - I just swapped it with the new handle. If you are looking for a lock - you may have to go to a local junkyard or Toyota for a replacement lock cylinder. If you don't know how to key a lock, going to Toyota makes more sense because you should get a key with the cylinder. Hope this helps. Mark A.

The tailgate latches (you refer to them as locks in your question) are available for the 2000-2006 Tundra. Start at the top of the page and search for tailgate latch or either of these OEM part numbers: 65780-0C010, 65790-0C010
