In this video we're going to show you taillight replacement, both replacing the bulb itself as well as the whole assembly. This is a 2001 PT Cruiser, the same as any '01 to '05. The tools you'll need are a flat-blade screwdriver and/or a T27 torx bit with a driver.
To change out a taillight on a PT Cruiser you're really going to want a T27 torx bit and a driver or a large flat-blade screwdriver. There's a screw right down here that you have to remove. Once you remove that screw, pull off and pull back on the taillight. If you're just replacing the bulbs, they twist counterclockwise and pull out. The bulbs just pull out and go back in same as here. Many times you'll find if you can't get this screw out, usually the clip breaks inside. If that happens, what you can do is, and you might want to use a rag or something, gently pry up on the taillight back in here. Then you can work it up and off there.
You can see my bolt is still in here. It's a new light from 1A Auto. They mount exactly the same. The bulbs need a turn to lock. I'll remove my old clip. I just went to the hardware store and got a new clip. Put it back in place. Lights placed there. I'll start my new bolt in. Just tighten up the bolt. I use a little allen wrench to tighten it. Right into place.
