Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and the next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we show you how to replace the driver's side rear view mirror on this 2005 Hyundai Elantra. It is a pretty easy process. The tools you'll need include a small flat blade screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, and either a 10mm wrench or a 10mm socket with a ratchet. Again, we do this on the driver's side, but passenger's side is the same procedure.
I'm removing the cover on the opposite of the mirror. I'm going to use a little piece of cloth and a flat blade screwdriver. The cloth will just protect the paint while I pry it against the door. Pop the bottom free with the clips off.
To disconnect the harness, you're going to have a tab underneath in the middle. Press on it and it should pop right out. When I took the cover off, this yellow clip stayed in the door. You need to take that out or the trim piece isn't going to go back on correctly. Take a flat blade screwdriver; pull on it a little bit, pull it out, and then insert it back into your trim piece.
There are three 10mm bolts that I'm going to remove. We'll do a little fast-forwarding here as we remove those three 10mm bolts. Use a Phillips head to take off the Phillips head screw. Hold the back of the mirror.
You can see our brand new part from 1A Auto and it comes with a black back. You've got a couple different options in terms of installing this. You could install it as is and it will be a great functioning mirror that did everything the other one did and pass inspection. Or you can be as crude as going to a hardware store, buying a can of spray paint, and spraying it the color of your car. Or, if you want to be exact, you can take the mirror to an auto parts store that has a paint department in the back, and they can help you match your paint, put it in an air charged can, and you can spray it yourself.
Here we're obviously putting the mirror back in place. Just to reverse the procedure, put the mirror in place, start all three bolts in finger tight, and then, tighten them up. When you tighten them you want them nice and firm but you don't want to over tighten. You could break the mirror base if you tighten them too much. I'm going to plug in the harness, the mirror, and reattach the trim piece.

The mirror exterior is of a PVC or harder plastic. The BLACK COLOR IS INTEGRAL. Our car is light tan. The black mirror casing is a good complement to the color of the car.
