I posted this question and this is what I discovered upon receipt of my purchase: these clips are called circlips and I did receive a circlip on the drive axle for the driver's side which is a male end and is inserted into the transaxle. The passenger side drive axle is a female end and is inserted on to the intermediary shaft which then goes into the transaxle. Upon removal of the outgoing drive axle I found that there is a circlip on the male end piece - the intermediary shaft - which comes out of the transaxle and locks into the passenger side drive axle once it is installed. There was not a new circlip sent for the passenger side. According to both the Mazda technical book for the 2008 Mazda3i 2.0L and the Haynes Manual, the old clips need to be removed & replaced. Once I locate a new circlip, I will be able to install this new drive axle and be on my way for a fresh alignment. I hope this helps!
