In this video, I show you how to replace a rear side view mirror on this 1998 Corolla, same as any '98 - '02. On this vehicle, it does have power mirrors, so I do remove the door panel. If you're just replacing manual mirrors on your vehicle, then you won't need to remove the door panel. Tools you'll need are a Phillips screwdriver and a 10 mm socket and ratchet or a wrench.
Start by removing the front, inside door handle. There's a little Phillips screw right there to remove. Then the handle slides forward and kind of pulls out. In behind, you can see there's a clip right there on a rod. With the screwdriver and then take the handle, push it up and off the rod and off. Now you're going to pry up your switch panel here. Pull it forward and disconnect the lead. Then use your screwdriver right under your armrest tab, here. Pry that up. You can also pull off this trim panel, here. There are two screws holding the armrest right there, and then a little clip right here. On the clip, just use a Phillips head and turn it, put your fingernail under it, and pry it out. Once it's out like that, it's all set. Then remove these two screws.
I'll speed up as we do that. This is probably the most physically challenging part. Those screws in there are a little difficult to get out, but as long as you have a good Phillips screwdriver you'll be all set.
Now just pull, use your fingernails, use your fingers. Work them in underneath and the door panel is just held in by a series of clips.
I got a little surprise as that clip came flying out. Now, here's the proper way to do it.
Pull on this one, just keep your hand over that. It's going to come out. Then just lift the door panel right off.
Your mirror is here. It connects right here. There is a button around the back side. Just press in on that button and pull on the lead and take it out. Although, I'm having trouble getting the button, so I'm going to use a screwdriver. Press the button with the screwdriver, pull it up and out. Then, there are three 10 mm nuts right here. The mirror comes off. Obviously, my mirror is in fine shape, so I'm just going to reinstall it.
The new mirrors from 1AAuto, they'll come with the correct plug and everything so they'll plug right in. They do come molded in black plastic. Obviously, you can bolt it on that way and that fixes your problem if it's broken. If you did want to match your mirror to your vehicle, what you want to do is go to a good automotive parts store that has a paint department and you can give them your VIN, or they can help you find your paint code. They can mix up some paint, put it into an air-charged spray can and you can paint your mirror to match.
Reinstallation is reverse of the procedure. Put the harness through. Thread the bolt stops on by hand. You want these to be nice and firm, but not over tight. Plug back in our lead.
Speed through putting it back together. Hang the door panel up. Make sure your lock button comes through the top. Once you get it hung up you can look in behind and line up the clips. Feel the pin and then the hole, push it in. Make sure that you have your lock rod and your harness coming through. Then install the two Phillips screws that hold near the armrest base. Now you can reinstall the armrest. Just push it down and lock it into place. Reconnect your power window switch. Slide the back in first, then push the front down into place. Reinstall your door handle. Push it in. Push it back to lock it into place, and then put the screw back in. Then the trim panel that goes up top near the mirror, and then the little clip in the back to hold it.

09 Subaru Forester side mirrors
Anthony
September 11, 2019
Had a passenger side mirror mishap. OEM color matched replacement was very costly. Bought the pair (can be painted) and installed them. They work perfectly! Movement was smooth and defroster works too. Actually, both in black look like they are factory.
