What's up, guys? I'm Andy from 1A Auto. In this video, I'm going to show you how to remove and reinstall the outside front door handle on this 2001 BMW 325xi. If you need these parts or other parts for your vehicle, click the link in the description and head over to 1AAuto.com.
Take this little cover off here, just take a straight blade screwdriver, get underneath here. You could use a trim tool as well. Just pry this cover off, just like that. I am going to just take this plastic bezel off right there, slide that out of the way. There is a small screw in here that I'm going to use a 3 millimeter hex key to get it off, just loosen it up. You can try to use a socket, but just one of these keys will be good. You don't have to take it out all the way, just pry this out a little bit. There's a gasket on here, make sure you leave that gasket with the car while you pull this cover off. The lock cylinder's going to come out with it. Just wiggle it back and forth. Just like that.
Now, I'm going to take a 2 millimeter hex key and slide it in that same hole. There's a little screw right there, I'm just going to loosen that up, twist it to the left, and as I loosen it, it's actually going in, it's reverse thread. When it's right, grab this handle, and it should slide out, just like that. That gasket just fell off, which is fine, and then we can slide the handle right out.
Now I want to install this outside door handle. Make sure you put the gasket on first. Get that in position. And then this is going to slide in down here, just like that. Get this lined up. Put that in position, then I can take that 2 millimeter hex key, slide that down in here. So I turn that to the right, like I'm tightening it, and just make sure that bolt came out. And it did. That's working properly. We can take this cover with the lock cylinder in it, line this in position, then take the 3 millimeter hex key, slide it in here and tighten this bolt up. This little plastic grommet, slide that in position, and then slide this plug in.

Open the door. I'm just going to grab a straight blade pocket screwdriver just to take this little trim piece off. Just a little cover, just a little rubber cover. I'm going to take a hex key number 4, that's 4 millimeter, and there's a bolt or a screw right there. You go in at that angle. Loosen this up. As we're loosening this up, this cover right here is going to come loose, so keep wiggling it back and forth. All right, make sure that's unthreaded all the way. Slide this out.
It's a little bit of a struggle so you can use a trim tool. Just get down underneath here. Just be careful not to scratch the paint. Here we go. Pull that off, slide that out of the way. Once that cover is off, then you can actually take, there's a screw in there that you're going to use a T15 driver. It's easier to use a driver than actual bits because you'll be able to get in there, and you're going to go over here. You're going to loosen this up. It's kind of a reverse thread. As I loosen it, the pin is going to go in, it's going to loosen up, and then you'll be able to slide the handle just like this, and then grab the handle and slide it outwards.
Take the door handle, we want to slide this into this side of the door here first. with that in, then we position this over here. Make sure you have the gasket is on, especially if you're replacing the door handle. Line this up, slide that like that. Take the T15 driver. We're going to slide it in the hole down here and then you're going to turn it clockwise, which is actually going to pull that pin back through the door handle. Not too tight. You don't want to break anything. You can recheck the door handle and make sure it's working. We can actually close the door, try it. That is working properly. Now take this cover, slide this back in position, just like that. Take the hex key, line up the screw, push that down, and then just snug this up. That's good. Take this little plug, put it back in position. You're good to go.
