Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the light socket on one of the driving lights on this 2002 Suburban. Often the light sockets burn up and melt because the driving lights are on constantly. This is the same for any Suburban of this age as well as the GM trucks and other SUVs. Tools you need are new light sockets from 1AAuto.com, wire cutters, wiring pliers and a razor blade or a knife to cut some electrical tape.
Start out by removing the headlight which is the two locking pins at the top and then pull the light out and disconnect the connectors and then remove the parking light by reaching down in and clipping the tab and pulling the light out and remove the driving light socket.
Take your parking light socket and cut this shielding and pull it back. Using wire cutters, just clip these wires. Just take your bulb out and you'll put it in your new one. Interesting to note that the socket was already replaced on this vehicle, so you can see on the left is the one that was in there. On the right is the new one from 1A Auto.
I'm going to crimp or splice the wires together, so take off about 1/4 inch to 1/2 an inch of the end, twist the filaments on the wire, insert it into the splice and then use your wiring pliers to crimp the end line splice and repeat it for the other side or the other wire. Now we just need to repeat the process on these wires, just strip them. Again push the other side of the wire. It doesn't matter which wire goes to which wire on the new socket as it just completes the circuit. We'll put the wire in and crimp them with the wiring pliers. Once you've done that, your socket's now reconnected and you can just put this shielding back over the wires. Push your bulb into your new socket, and then, you can twist your sockets back into your parking light, put your parking light back into place and then put your headlight back in to place. Once everything's back in place, you're all set.
