Great Kit! Saves a lot of $$$$
Aaron

The kit is great...very complete! Would be nice if gave better placement/usage details on the separate bags. But it really saved me money doing it all myself!

Great kit, but don't get confused by the extra stuff. This kit covers several years of this engine and provides two sets of several seals.
Customer Q&A
why should the head bolts be replaced??
January 16, 2016

With blown head gaskets, sometimes the engine heats up over the grade of the bolt which can either warp or distort the bolt. It is a good idea to replace the bolt but in my case I didn't have to. When you put the bolts back in the motor, make sure you torque them to the right specs as overtightening can stretch the bolt and break when the car is running.

After torquing the bolts to the right foot pounds the extra 90 degrees that you turn them stretches the threads a bit locking them in place wich ruins the bolt

The head bolts aren't really a necessity, but if you were changing a gasket that low such as the head gasket, it's a good idea since you're already that deep in the engine. The wear and stress on the engine overtime will eventually stretch the bolts out and COULD develop a small gap which would give the same symptoms of a blown head gasket. But yes, the bolts do stretch overtime.

bolts with excessive build up or damaged threads due to torque specs can make it difficult to put back together. If these are not an issue there is nothing wrong with keeping existing bolts. Just remember torque specs are very important and can be affected by the above conditions as there may be added resistance that is not present in new bolts with clean threads.

I had to change the head gaskets twice because the fist time I didn't use new head bolts. The old bolts were stretched and had bottom out, giving a faults torque reading. When I started the car steam was coming from the exhaust pipe. I thought it was a cracked head, had them tasted and they found no cracks or warpage.

thee is a chance that , the old ones might have stretched when the heads warped

There is a lot of good information on this thread! I would suggest doing it while you are there, some of the damage to the head bolts can be easily over looked by the naked eye. It may not be necessary, but the preventative maintenance while you have it all apart is a smart decision. Have a great day!

Installation instructions?

It was my first time installing a complete gasket set when I bought this one, I successfully installed it without any problems thanks to 1 A Auto's "how to videos " and multiple YouTube videos. I installed this on a 03 Imapala but the videos I watched were for a grand prix, but they are similar engines....

The kit does not come with installation instructions. As you take the engine apart, it becomes very obvious where the various gaskets go. YouTube is a good help as well

Mike if your question is does the kit have instructions the answer is no. The procedure to replace all gaskets and seals is a long multi-stepped process. There are videos online as well as instructions and torx specs in books put out by chilton which may be available at your local library. My suggestion is to photograph, diagram and mark items as you disassemble. Have the torx specs for every bolt ready ahead of time and be sure to hand the project over to a professional if you do not have each step clear before you start. Keep things even if they will be replaced together so you can make sure everything is put back in the proper location. Good luck! Plan for it to take you a few days to complete.

I'm going to be replacing my fuel injectors, and my mechanic asked me to get the o rings and gaskets. Does this kit include all that?
June 25, 2016
Erik E

Yes all the rings come with it
June 25, 2016

10
Yes...however if the o rings and and gasket is all ur replacing u dont need the entire head gasket set unless your replacing those too i would try to get just what you need for the job
June 25, 2016

10
If your replacing just the fuel injectors , you will not need the head set..depending on the car, you will need the upper intake set..which is a lot cheaper
June 25, 2016

yes all and a good kit

More than enough. For injectors, all you need are the plenum gaskets and the injector O-rings.

I noticed on the factory head gasket it says "This side up." Which side of the head gasket faces up?

Is the 05 chevy equinox ls awd 3.4l engine the same as the 06 chevy equinox ls awd 3.4l engine?
March 7, 2017
Leeroy G

It appears there will be slight differences between the 2005 model 3.4L engine, and the 2006 model 3.4L engine that would disqualify this set from working on the 2006 model.
March 7, 2017
Alex P
Do you have a head gasket set for an 06 Equinox?

We do not have the head gasket set for the 2006 Equinox currently.

Every time I get in my car, after it has sat overnight or if I had driven it for awhile that day, I will have to continue to put anti-freeze in the radiator/reservoir before I could drive it? What could the cause be for this problem?
March 22, 2018
Karen B

Take it to a mechanic. Most sounds like your head gasket is leaking though.

Does this kit come with the pintle caps for the injectors? Do you have them?
May 9, 2018

does this gasket set come with both upper and lower intake manifold gaskets just wondering why its so cheap compared to auto zones i see it says the number of intake manifold gasket (2) should it be 2 for upper and 2 for lower 4 total?
June 11, 2019

This comes with gaskets for both the intake and exhaust manifolds as pictured.
