Hi. I'm Mike Green. In this video, I'm going to show you how to replace the taillights on, this is a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban, but the taillight procedure is the same for this style suburban, Yukon, Tahoe, and also the 88 to 98 Chevrolet and GMC trucks. We'll get to it.
Taillights, once you open the tailgate or the rear doors, are held in by two screws, one down there, and one up in there. What I have here is a magnet to help me not drop these screws when they come out. If you do end up dropping one, it's just a regular screw. You can get one from the hardware store to replace them.
Now that we have removed the screw, then we can just pull on the light a little bit. There is a gasket around the edge, so it does stick. Now that the light is separated, you can just reach in and, with your thumb, pull back the tab and pull out the harness. This here is your taillight connector board. Sometimes, if you're taillight's not working, you replace this board, and it will work. Also, if you just want to replace the bulbs, you just remove the two little screws here, pull the board out, and you can replace the bulbs.
With that, now we can reinstall it, hook up the harness, get the tabs to line up, and push it in. Line up your tabs, then put the screws in. What I would suggest for putting the screws back in is put the screw on the screwdriver, very carefully put it in. Same thing with the bottom one, very carefully.
There you have it. Taillight replacement on a 92 to 99 Suburban or 88 to 99 Chevy or GMC truck. Not much more than a Phillips screwdriver, a pen magnet if you have one, and you're set. You can either fix the damaged one, or if your light's not working in your replace the bulbs, and also replace the taillight connecting board.
We hope this helps you out. Check out www.1AAuto.com for all your parts needs. Thank you. Let's get going on replacing this tail lamp assembly. Open your tailgate. You're gonna see your mounting screw here and one right there. Remove those with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Okay. Let's get this outta here. Get your little electrical connector here. If you have a pocket screwdriver it's probably gonna come in handy. Got our brand new lens here. Looks great. We're gonna hook up our electrical connector. Just take a look. That looks awesome too. Should clip right in. Give it a tug. You got your little hooks here. You're gonna go into those holes and it's gonna roll right in, just like that. Start in both these screws and then we'll tighten them down. All right. Let's get ready to test it.

Okay, friends. To get started on our right rear tail lamp, we're gonna, of course, first, open up the rear door. Once this is open, you can continue on to seeing two mounting screws. You're gonna use a Phillips head screwdriver and remove the pair. There's one. Now, let's just go ahead and grab onto that tail lamp, slide it out of here, and then, we'll disconnect it. We're gonna go ahead and release this tab right here and draw off the pigtail. Always take a peek, make sure you don't see any funny colors, and let's move along.
Now, let's continue on to removing our two mounting bolts here. Let's grab this piece. Now is a perfect time to check all of your bulbs. Make sure that the filaments, which is the areas in the center, aren't broken, and, of course, make sure that they aren't discolored. If, of course, you want to replace them, now is the time.
All right. So let's grab our brand new tail lamp here. I'm just gonna remove all these paper covers and set those aside, recycle them later. Let's take our assembly, carefully slide it in here, start in both of your bolts, snug them up.
Now it's gonna be time to install our brand new tail lamp, let's go ahead and get our wiring harness back on here. Listen for a click. Make sure it's completely locked in. The next thing we wanna do is pay attention to our hooks that are coming along this side. They're gonna fit inside these square holes right here. Just like that. Now, let's start in our screws. I'm just gonna start my screw in using a magnet. It's easier to reach in there. Let's get it so it's hopefully started a little bit. Okay. That one is started. Do the same for the other one. Here we are. So they're both started. Let's go ahead and snug them up. Perfect.

Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and the next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to service as well as replace the entire taillight assembly on this 1996 Chevy Tahoe. We show you on the driver side, but the passenger side is the same procedure. The items you'll need for this include new taillights from 1AAuto.com, a flat blade screwdriver, and a Phillips screwdriver.
Using your flat blade screwdriver, you want to pry out this cap and this cap right here. Now, you want to remove this Phillips screw and this Phillips screw. We'll just fast-forward as Don does that. Now, pull the taillight straight out and then pull back on the tab on this harness and pull it free.
Now, if you want to just service the bulbs, you just remove these two Phillips screws holding on this panel. Now, you just pull the bulb out and then push your new one in. The other two are the exact same way. If your circuit board ever breaks, we do offer exact replacements at 1AAuto.com.
To replace the bulbs, you can just put that circuit board back into place and replace those two Phillips screws. In the back is the original light; in the middle is the new light from 1AAuto. You can see in exact replacement. We also offer kind of a performance style and these styles do change from time to time. This is example of what we were offering when this video is done.
To re-install, plug it back in, put the light in place, and line up the holes, and re-install those two screws.
Replace those two caps. To give you a better idea of how they look, on the left is the new one and on the right is the old one. You can see they're identical. These just look a little bit newer. Then for the performance taillight and just a close up of it. And you're all set.
We hope this video helps you out. Brought to you by www.1AAuto.com, your source for quality replacement parts and the best service on the Internet. Please feel free to call us toll-free, 888-844-3393. We're the company that's here for you on the Internet and in person.

I was so satisfied that I ordered the front grille and replacement lights for the front of my GMC 1990 Sierra. My comfort in knowing I wasn't wasting my time in placing the order was crucial. This is my company of choice from now on.

Needed new lights and came across this site. And watched a video on utube and liked what I saw and ordered a set of taillights and was very pleased with the fitment of the lenses. So I changed them both left and right. It was a easy enough to replace them both. And it really looks so much better and bright now. Now to order the headlights.
