In this video, we're going to be working with our 1996 GMC Sierra K1500. We're going to show you how to remove and replace your vehicle's wiper transmission. This is actually two individual pieces in this vehicle, one for the passenger side and one for the driver's. We're going be to replacing the passenger side, but the process will be the same for the driver's. If you like this video, please click "subscribe." We have a ton more information on this truck as well as many other makes and models, and if you need these parts for your vehicle, you can follow the link down in the description over to 1AAuto.com. Here are the items you'll need for this repair.
Use some small pieces of painters tape to make a straight line with your wiper blade. This will help us position the arms back on without needing to do trial and error. Using the flat blade screwdriver, pry out on the tab on the top edge of the wiper arm at the pivot. Remove the wiper arm from the pivot. Do the same thing on the opposite side.
Remove the weather strip from the top of the firewall. Remove the three Phillips-head screws securing the cowl to the truck on both sides. There's one down on this opening. There are three, both in the same positions on either side of the vehicle. Once you get the first three screws removed, lift up and remove this corner panel that goes around the hinge. There's a fourth Phillips-head screw under there you'll also need to remove. Remove the three screws from each corner of your cowl.
Once that's done, you can remove all four of the Phillips-head screws along the front of the cowl. Pull back and lift up to remove the cowl. You'll need to disconnect the washer hose over here on the driver's side. Remove the cowl from the vehicle.
Loosen the 10 millimeter nuts on the wiper linkage. There's no need to remove these entirely. If you're doing the driver’s side arm, you can stop here and move on to removing the other portion on the other end of the arm. However, for the passenger side, you'll need to loosen this.
Remove the three 11 millimeter bolts securing the pivot end of the wiper transmission to the truck. Lower the pivot into the cowl. Slide it up and out of the next opening.
Send the arm back into the truck. Line up the pivot and the three holes and reinstall your three 11 millimeter screws.
Snap the arms back on to the wiper, tighten them back down with your 10 millimeter socket and ratchet. Make sure they're in the same place they were removed from.
Reconnect your windshield washer hose, and lay the cowl back into place. Reinstall the four screws in the center section of the cowl. Reinstall the two short screws on the end. Once the rear one's in, you can reinstall the plastic cover. It simply slides in and drops down. Reinstall the longer screw on the outer edge here. Repeat these steps on the opposite side. Reinstall the weather strip onto the top edge of the cowl.
Now, I know we had mentioned using the painters tape to align these earlier, but it turns out these wipers are keyed, which means they'll only go on one way. Simply pull out the tab and slide them back on. Lock the tab back into place. Lay the wiper down. Remove the tape.

Horrible Fit
Joe
December 24, 2016
Not even close on the fit of the stud (your part) to the wiper arm (original GM factory arm). I used grease on the wiper arm and still had to hammer the arm in place. Now the passenger side stud assembly is loose even though the 3 bolts are secure.
If I have to service the passenger arm in the future, I will have to sawzall the dam thing off.
What a waste of money.
Wiper arm assembly ok

I ordered this set of replacement wiper arms for our 1999 Chevy Tahoe. The install went fine with the exception that the manufacturer allowed solder to flow into the splines of the post, which I had to carefully grind off. Otherwise a good buy, and good delivery.

Finding the correct part was very easy, price point was better than all parts stores I shopped, product was shipped and received on a very respective time line and most of all every part I have ordered fits my vehicle better than an in-person parts store!
Perfect fitment

I had recently purchased the pair and the installation went fairly nice. Putting on the wiper arms to the transmissions was a bit of a challenge, but a little WD40 and a rubber mallet helped me knock them down. After I laid the wipers back onto the winshield, my passenger arm was way up. It could be possible, but I dont see how this could be an error of mine, as these transmissions are keyed. If anyone has an recommendations, I would definitely be open to suggestions and correct my review. I tried letting them run for a second to see if that would make a difference and nothing. Wiper arm is about a quarter up the windshield from where it should be. I watch a lot of the 1A auto tutorials and decided Id try out their parts. Cant say Id do it again.

Exact fit. Works well. And easy to adjust wiper position. But, the best part was the 1A Auto installation video which even told you in advance what tools and size sockets you would need.
Good but not perfect

The part that hooks up to the wiper arms was a little too big for my 97 suburban. I was able to provide some percussive persuasion and get them on.
Not sized tight for remounting wiper arms

They install well but are not sized well for remounting the wiper arms. Needed to tap the original arms back on with a hammer and a piece of wood. Hope they do not need to come off anytime soon. Ill be cutting and replacing next time.
Just not very good. I don't recommend.

Just okay. Wouldn't buy these again. I'd look for parts of better quality. Wiper arms are not in correct position now. Had to trim cowl cover on driver's side to clear the wiper arm. These transmission assemblies feel lightweight compared to stock. Even the nuts that bolt on to the motor shaft are smaller, at 8MM vs the stock 10MM. I don't know how long they will last, but at least it's easy to change them and they have a great video on the installation. I would have returned them, but I was stuck. I didn't have time to wait. Also, price wise these are much better than my local parts store. I guess you get what you pay for.

I purchased both the TRQ wiper arm transmissions and the TRQ wiper arms. My concern was that if I used two different brands they may not connect together properly. The transmissions fit in just fine, no issues, but when I went to attach the arms to the transmissions they didnt fit. Neither driver nor passenger arms would attach. There is a little clip on the bottom of the arms that slides back and forth and on both arms, the clip didnt slide far enough over to allow you to slide these arms onto the transmissions. I took a grinder and a 4 pound sledge hammer to the transmission to modify them enough to get these arms on. I really hope that I dont have to remove them anytime soon. They had to be pounded on. The arms dont rest in the right area. The passenger arm is up midway on the windshield. Technically they function, but appearance is 3 out of 5 due to misalignment and fit is 1 out of 5 because they wouldnt go together even though they are the same exact brand. If you are not mechanic

I was extremely disappointed in these products. Drivers side was splined wrong, and would not accept the original arm. the passenger side was incorrectly timed. At its lowest adjustment point, it was 3 inches too high. I wound up taking the bushings off of your "high quality new parts" to install on my original 25 year old parts, just to make work like they're supposed to. I have purchased several pairs of wheel bearings from this company, and have no problems yet. Maybe you should stick to suspension parts.
