In this video, we'll be replacing a power window motor on this 2004 GMC Sierra. It's basically the same as any '99 to '06 Sierra and Silverado, Yukon, Escalade, all those trucks and SUVs. For this project, you'll need a medium flat blade screwdriver, a pair of needle nose pliers, 7mm socket and driver, a Torx driver small size (number 2), and a 10mm socket and driver.

For this, due to the YouTube 10-minute limit, we're going to speed up a lot of our stuff. First, it is the door panel. I'm going to go through that really quick for you. Pry out the door lock button. You remove the mirror panel and there are just two clips. You just use a screwdriver. I covered it in a rag so I wouldn't scratch the paint. Then the door handle trim plate. I just pry this out from the back, it comes off like that. Then, there's a small push pin, basically a plastic push pin. Start it with a screwdriver and then I use pliers to pull it out the rest of the way. There's a little tiny trim plate. Pull it off with your finger. Number two Torx screw, remove that quick.

I move real fast in this video. There's two other bolts, one right behind the lock right there. That's a 7 mm; remove that. And then another 7mm up under the door pull. Right there. Once those are removed, then the door panel basically lifts up and out, and then you're going to need to reach in behind, that's the courtesy light that I unplug there and then you need to unplug the power window switch and locks and everything. Actually it's also the mirror that plugs in there. This one is a little difficult. It's got a little lock tab and then that little grey lever actually pivots forward, so close up a bit and it comes out. You see me struggle here a little bit. Unplug it. There's one more on that master switch, and then unplug your speaker.

Once the door panel is removed, now we remove the door handle. Pry that blue clip away and then use your fingers to rod then pulls up and out. 10mm bolt, take that off and then the handle slides forward and off. Now, you want to carefully remove your water shield. This keeps water from getting into your truck so carefully remove it and then put it aside so it doesn't get damaged.

Then remove the handle or the switch plate. Take off a seven millimeter bolt on the backside and then pry it up and out from the back to front, like that. Obviously, if your window regulators messed up, you're not going to be able to control it. I'm doing this on a working truck so you can just see how everything comes apart. If your window regulator is broken, hopefully it's in the up position because that's the ideal position. You can see here, I'm going to run the window up and then I'll show you the two bolts that clamp the window into place from the window regulator; right there and right there. If your regulator's not working, then loosen these 10 millimeter bolts up. Pull the window apart and secure them in the up position with some tape. You'll see that later.

The window regulator is held in by six bolts. I just showed you three there: one, two, and three down there so six total. You can see, I'm securing the window in the up position, two pieces of tape, four might be better. Now I'm removing the six bolts that hold the window regulator. Quickly, working quick. You can see my father over there, working on one of his projects. He's in the plaid shirt, old school. I think he was putting the radio into a '74.

Now I'm running the window regulator down a little bit and it's released from the window now. Now I'm just taking the rest of the bolts off. Then, once you have all the bolts out you just twist the regulator, I'll slow it back down here. First unplug, obviously, the window motor, the little walking tab, and then pull it apart. Then you just twist the regulator down and around. Like I said, you'll want to remove your window from the clamps and get it in the up position and tape, so you have the room to maneuver this stuff.

Then you can see it's basically two rails with cables. Then once you've got it out then you can put your new one in. It looks like I skipped a little stuff there, but the new one goes in and then it hangs from up there. You can see right there, it hangs on there. Then you start a bolt and a cop and you hang up the back. The same thing, it has a little tooth that hangs up there. Start the bolts and then we'll speed up the tape here. All six bolts.

Again, look at those hands work. I'm quick. Then, when you take these, you can see I'm just using a screwdriver style driver. That's sufficient as long as you get them you always want to install them all first. You don't want to put one in and tighten it up. You want to put one in, screw it on for a few threads and then put the rest of them in too. Then go back and tighten them up afterwards. Putting them in one at a time allows you to move things around a little bit. Make sure you can get everything in.

Now I'm testing the regulator. Before I test it, obviously, you've got to plug it in. Just run it up.

Actually, I'm not testing it. I'm running it up into the window making sure that the clip clamps go onto the window okay. Running it right up and then I'll tighten up those clamps.

Now it's fastened to the window. Pull the tape off of the top and now I'll give the window a quick test. You can see it goes down and up. Make sure everything's free. Make sure the window motor is not laboring at all. Just make sure it runs the exact same way as your other side. That's about it. I hope this helps you out.
