All right, so we're going to replace the parking brake or e-brake release, which is right here. Sometimes this plastic piece can break or the cable can break, so when you set your parking brake, say like that, when you want to release it, you pull this and it releases it.
So to release this, or to remove this, you have to go up under the dash here. All right, so to get this cable out, the easiest way to show it, I'm going to show you on the new one. It's got a couple spring tabs here. I'm going to go up there with a pair of pliers, and I'm going to squeeze them together. Then it's going to pull out of the mounting point. All right, so I pulled it loose, and then at the other end of that, there's an opening in the mount. So you have to slide it out so I release it. Then it's right in here.
Now we need to get this metal end out and there's an opening right in the end of it. If you kind of flip it like that, and you just kind of fish it out just like that. This cable just loops up and over. So it's not very hard to route it. Now to remove the plastic, there's a 10 millimeter bolt under here. So I'm going to take our socket, quarter inch drive and just take it off. All right, so now you got this bolt loose. You're going to take it out of here and this plastic handle piece is going to push backwards to release from the dash. You can slide the cable all the way out.
Okay, we're going to take the new one and fish the wire back up into the dash, going to put it relatively in the same area it was. See these little tabs here? These are going to slide into your slots that are in the dash. Sometimes you got to move this wire in the back so it doesn't get hung up. Find those two slots with the tabs. Push them in there, and then just go forward. They'll engage, and then just make sure that you can open it like this so it's not crooked.
Take your 10 millimeter bolt. Put it back up in there. Get it started and back to your ratchet. Just get it nice and snug right there. Of course the cable's not attached to anything, so it's going to be loose. But now we're going to go up underneath and attach it.
We're going to start by taking the plastic part and getting it close. We're going to just feed to wire part so that the plastic is just going to sit right where it was before. We're not going to pull it through yet though. Going to slide this. We might have to get up here. It's a light, bit of spring tension to it, and you get up there with your index finger. That's where the end of the cable's going to go. It's got an opening in it, and then you're going to have to bend the wire a little bit.
Basically, turn it if it's through a little hole, and then it goes through a slot. So it can't come out of the hole, and now we're going to pull the wire up or the cable up tight. Go through the hole where the plastic's supposed to go. So now it's just sitting there. But it's still loose, so what you want to do is take it and just push it in and then once it goes through, the tabs spread out and it's seated in there and it's locked. So now when you push the e-brake down, or the parking brake down, and you pull the release handle, it releases it.
