First thing you're gonna do is disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug. Just grab ahold of it. Give it a twist, and pull it. Disconnect from the coil the same way, twist, and pull. You're gonna keep this heat shield. Just pull it. Set it aside. Two mounting bolts mount the actual coil to the bracket. You have one connector. So, you're gonna take that tab. Lift that tab out. Pull the connector out. 10 millimeter socket. Lift the coil out.
So, to reinstall, just reverse procedure. Line up the bolts. Torque the two mounting bolts to 89 inch-pounds. Double-check. Now, you're gonna reinstall the connector. Line it up. Push it down until you hear it click. Tab's locked. Twist on the new coil wire, spark plug wire, it comes pre-siliconed. Slide your old heat shield over it right to the bottom. I like to put it right on the spark plug until it clicks in. Hear it? And line up the angle to the coil. Now, just repeat the procedure to the other seven cylinders.

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace an ignition coil on this 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 with the 5.3-liter V8. It's a similar process on a large variety of GM models from 2007 to 2012. The only tool that you'll need for this is a 10mm socket and ratchet.
We're just going to show you on this ignition coil right here, but you can see there's four on either side since it is a V8. What you want to do first is just disconnect the harness at the top, and then remove these two 10mm bolts right here. Once those screws are out, you can pull the ignition coil away and just disconnect the spark plug wire.
Take your new ignition coil and put it back in place. Plug that harness back in at the top, line up those holes, and replace those two 10mm bolts. We'll speed up here. Notice he threads them in first by hand, and then tightens them up with the socket and ratchet. Then reconnect your spark plug wire and you're all set.
