Hi, I'm Mike Green. I'm one of the owners of 1A Auto. I want to help you save time and money repairing or maintaining your vehicle. I'm going to use my 20-plus years experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1AAuto.com. The right parts installed correctly: that's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the rear inside door handle on this 2002 Sierra Crew Cab, same as any '99 to '02. The 03 and up are a little different, as far as taking the panel off. The only tools you'll need are a flat blade screwdriver, a 7mm socket, and a 10mm socket with a ratchet and extension.
There are two 7mm screws that you have to remove, or bolts: one right in there, and then one down in the bottom corner here. As well, you need to pry out this trim panel, pry out your lock button, and pry out your window switch and disconnect it. First, put your finger under, and pull out that bezel. Use a regular screwdriver, just to get the front there. Pull off your lock button and the switch. Also, pry up gently, there on the front of it, and then there's a little tab. Get your screwdriver, push on it, pull the connector down and out. You can also pry out your light and reflector, and disconnect it. Use your 7mm socket, ratchet and extension. We'll just speed up here as we remove those two 7mm bolts. Once that's unbolted, then you just lift up on your panel and it comes off.
You can see, your handle's right here, there's a little clip that goes on this rod. Either get your finger in there, or a screwdriver, and pop that clip up and off, and get that rod out. Get a 10mm bolt right here, then your handle comes forward and out.
Put it in, push it against the door, slide it back, get your rod in, get the clip off. Put this bolt back in. Put your door handle back on. Make sure you bring this right up to here, bring your courtesy light through. For the white plastic legs right there, get them resting in the door like that. Push the panel against the door. It should slide down nice and easy. Put in this bolt next to the armrest. I put that in backwards.
