Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. We've been selling auto parts for over 30 years.
Remove the center cap with a large flat-bladed screwdriver or a plastic prying tool you can get from 1AAuto.com. Push in here and pop it off. Use a 22 millimeter socket and breaker bar to loosen the lug nuts while the vehicle is still on the ground. Raise and support the vehicle and finish removing the wheel.
Support the suspension arm assembly with a jack or a jack stand. We're using this because we're working on a two post lift. The suspension is going to want to drop when we remove the strut and spring assembly, so that's why we need to have it supported. At the top here, there are three studs with nuts. We will start by removing those. And then, loosen the two stud and nuts on the bottom and pull the strut assembly out.
I will spray some rust penetrant on the nuts and bolts here. Use a 15 millimeter wrench on the top ones. If they are stuck, use a dead blow, break them free. With those broken free, I'm going to switch to a ratcheting wrench, make things go a little quicker. These two lower mounting bolts go through the control arm. There is a 15 millimeter head on this side, and an 18 millimeter nut on this side. I'm going to try to break this nut free first. Take my wrench and then hit it with my mallet.
So it looks like it's actually turning the nut, and not the bolt, which is good. Free it up. I'm going to try to do the same for the other side. With the nut loose, I'm going to kind of hold it with my 18 millimeter, and take a 15 millimeter socket and ratchet. Now I've got it loose, I can undo it with my fingers. Slide the long bolt out. I'll put these together and put them aside. So repeat the removal for the other bolt. I'm going to hold the shock and I'll lower the suspension down. I'm going to capture one of the top nuts just so if the strut and shock combination comes loose, it doesn't fall completely out. I'm going to take a pry bar and sort of push against the bottom. Reach up, hold the strut up, and undo that top nut. Pull it out of the mount. It's not going to come down this way, so it's going have to come out through the top. We have our strut and spring assembly.
Here's our old strut and spring assembly from our vehicle, and our brand new assembled strut and spring from 1AAuto.com. So the nice things is you don't have to worry about swapping these springs, which can be very difficult. It comes fully loaded, ready to go. As you can see, it's got the same mounting bolt holes in the bottom. It has the same three studs on the top to mount. It has the same three mounting studs on the top as the original that came out. And this should go in your vehicle great and give you a good ride. This is just a warning sticker. You can remove this before you install it. You don't need to mess with this center nut. It's all set.
The spring is assembled. The warning's telling you not to undo it. Just leave it alone. You can take the sticker off. So we're going to go ahead and install this in the vehicle now. Before we install it, just remove these nuts that it comes with. Place them aside. I'm going to loosen this one and hold onto it, because when I install it, I'm going to use it to just hang the strut in place so it doesn't fall. So just keep that in a handy spot. When you install this, there are two mounting holes in the back. They are slotted, so they give you a little bit of room to work with.
I'm going to line the strut up with the two studs in the back and the one in the front, faced the way that it's already set up. And these are lined up to match up with the control arm. We're going to go in the reverse the way we took the old one out. Slide it up into place. That's why I kept the nut handy. I can reach up and capture one so it doesn't fall on me. I'm going to use that one nut I installed and a ratcheting wrench to just draw the strut up into place. I'm going to pry up on the suspension a bit, on the strut, do this. I have a large pry bar on one side of the suspension arm, so I basically just pried the control arm down, and then pried the shock into place. Take a punch and align the bolt holes.
You're going to have to spend some time moving the shock around to get these bolts to line up, either using an awl or a punch or a little pry bar to try and pry it around. This one doesn't quite line up. I've got the other one captured, so we'll take a pry bar and sort of pry the strut around. Try to wiggle it in. There it is. I captured the other two nuts on the top studs. These are locking nuts. And if they're torqued, they'll be locked in place. The bolts that we're replacing these with, the head is a 13 millimeter, the nut is still a 15. I'm just going to snug these up. And we'll use a 15 millimeter ratcheting wrench. Tighten up the top nuts. I torqued these lower bolts to 37 foot-pounds. Caught a hold of the top of the bolt and nut. Repeat the other one. Torque the top nuts to 37 foot-pounds using the deep socket and torque wrench.
Place the wheel back on the car. Thread the lug nuts on by hand. With the vehicle on the ground, I'm going to torque the lug nuts. Torquing these 140 foot-pounds. Going in a cross pattern. Reinstall the center cap. Line up this valve stem picture with the valve stem on the wheel. Just pushing it into place.

Insert the 18mm nuts to the top of the strut by hand
Thread the 15mm bolts to the lower part of the strut
Transfer any clips to the new strut
Tighten the 15mm bolts to the lower part of the strut
Torque the 15mm bolts between 70 and 75 foot-pounds
5. Reinstalling the Stabilizer Link
Insert the stabilizer link into place
Start the 15mm nuts by hand
Hold the upper stabilizer link stud with a 15mm wrench
Fasten the lower nut onto the stabilizer link with a 15mm wrench
6. Reattaching the Wheel
Slide the wheel into place
Start the 22mm lug nuts by hand
Tighten the lug nuts preliminarily
Lower the vehicle to the ground
Tighten the lug nuts to 100 foot-pounds in a crossing or star pattern
Reattach the center cap
Tighten the 18mm nuts to the top of the strut
Torque the 18mm nuts to 38 foot-pounds

In this video, I'm going to show you how to replace the front shocks and spring assemblies on this 2011 Chevy Silverado. This is a 1500 with full-wheel drive. It's the same as any Chevy Silverado 1500 as well as the GMC Sierra 1500. We'll show you the passenger's side, but the driver's side is the same procedure. We do always recommend you replace these in pairs. You'll need new struts from 1AAuto.com, you'll need 15mm to 22mm sockets with a ratchet, a long extension, breaker bar or pipe for some extra leverage, penetrating oil, torque wrench, and jack and jack stands.
From the top there are three 18mm nuts that hold the top of the strut in place. You can see one there, one has a wire loom on it there that I'm going to reach down, grab, and just pull off. I apologize for the camera shot. You just grab the wire clip and pull it up off the stud. You have the other one there and your third one there.
Now use an 18mm socket with a long extension and remove those three nuts. Remove the center cab just by prying with a screwdriver, and if you don't have the benefit of air tools, loosen the lug nuts with the vehicle on the ground, then raise and secure the vehicle. Then remove the lug nuts the rest of the way. Remove the wheel and tire, and they are 22mm lug nuts.
Turn the wheel using hands or using the steering wheel, and then you need to remove the stabilizer link. Make sure you put some penetrating oil on the top end of it there, then use a wrench on the top side and a socket and ratchet on the bottom side to remove it all the way. Going to speed it up a little bit using an impact wrench to take that off. It just speeds things up for us.
Now with the shock or strut in place, we're just using a 15mm socket and ratchet. You might want to use a breaker bar to break them loose, but they come apart pretty easy on this truck. We'll fast-forward as we just take those out. With those bolts out, press down on the suspension some and bring the strut down and then up and out.
You can see the new struts from 1A Auto are exactly the same. There are two clips on the old strut that you want to pry off with a screwdriver, and then it's easiest to reinstall those just when you put the strut back into the vehicle. Put them on there, put the bolt up through, and you'll see us to do that. Putting the strut back in, if you look on the top of the strut where the coil spring ends that goes to the outside, and you put the strut back in and then lift it up into place.
Then you can just start the nuts onto the top. Put the bottom down in place, take your bolt, run it up through, and then those clips that you took off of the original strut, put them into place, and we just kind of hold them with our fingers, get the bolt started, and then you can press them down into place and tighten up the bolts the rest of the way.
You can see here we use a screwdriver to put through the clip to hold it in place until it gets down far enough that it holds itself in place. Repeat it for the other side as well. You can tighten these up between 70 and 75 foot-pounds. Speed up as we put the stabilizer link back in place. Use a pry bar to lift up on the swag bar a little bit, put the link back in place, put the bolt up through, and then tighten the nut down on top.
Then put our wheel back on, put the lug nuts back on by hand first, then tighten them up preliminarily. With the vehicle back down on the ground and secure, torque the lug nuts to 110 foot-pounds using a crossing pattern. Tighten up and torque the top three nuts to *38* foot-pounds, and put that wire clip back in place. You should be all set.

1. Removing the Rear Shock
Remove the spare tire
If you choose to raise the truck to remove the shock, you'll need another support (we use a jack stand) under the axle, since the rear shock helps hold up the axle
Use a 21mm wrench to hold the nut
Use a 21mm socket and breaker bar to loosen the lower bolt and remove the nut
Use the 21mm socket and breaker bar to loosen the upper bolt and use a ratchet to remove the bolt
Pull out the lower bolt and remove the shock
2. Reinstalling the Rear Shock
Line up the top and bottom of the shock
Insert the upper and bottom bolts
Use a jack stand to support the shock
Use a 21mm socket and ratchet to tighten the upper bolt
Insert the bottom nut and use a 21mm wrench to tighten the nut
Use a 21mm socket and ratchet to tighten the lower bolt
Use a torque wrench and 21mm socket to torque them both to 85-foot pounds
Use a torque wrench to torque the top bolt to 85-foot pounds
If you don't choose to raise the truck for this repair, you'll need a pry bar to compress the shock to line the bolts up

One of the first things you want to do when you're doing the rear shocks on this vehicle—you're going to want to remove the spare tire. It's normally in this position. This vehicle—it doesn't have a spare tire—this support is broken. So, start by taking that off. We did raise the vehicle. You don't necessarily have to raise the vehicle when you're doing this job, but if you do and you support it by the frame, we are going to also want another support under the axle, because the rear shock is actually holding the axle up a little bit. So, when we take these bolts out, the axle will fall down a little bit. So, I'm just going to support this rear axle, right here. But like I said, you can do this on the ground. You can leave the tires on. Just get on a creeper.
I'm going to use a 21mm socket and a breaker bar, and a 21mm wrench to hold the nut. We'll loosen this up. Once that's loose, I can take the nut off. I'm not going to pull the bolt out yet.
And up top, I'm going to loosen this bolt up. You don't need a wrench on the inside, because the nut is welded to the frame. Loosen this up. Once that's loose, I'm just going to switch to a ratchet and we can loosen up this bolt. Once that's loose, you can pull this bolt out. And I can grab—that's loose up top. Grab the bolt underneath. Just slide the shock right out.
Here's our old part. Here's our new shock from 1aauto.com. It's a TRQ part. It's got an updated metal dust shield versus the old plastic style. The size of the actual shock is the same. It comes with the rubber grommets and everything is the same. Get yours at 1aauto.com and you'll be ready to rock and roll.
Alright. So, we'll take our new shock and I'll line it in up top, and line it in down below. Woops—can grab the bolt, slide it in down below first. Slide it in up top. You can do either, or whatever is easier. If you have to move the axle up a little bit, go up a little, or down a little.
Take my 21mm socket and ratchet. Start tightening the top one up first. Alright. That's good.
I'm going to put the nut on the lower bolt. Take the 21mm wrench and a socket and ratchet and I'll snug this up first. Now we're going to torque them both.
I'm going to use a torque wrench and a 21mm socket. I'm going to torque this to 85-foot pounds. That's good. Torque this top bolt.
Now, if you did not raise the vehicle and support the vehicle, and you did not have the axle have to go up and down—you just left it on the tires—you would need a pry bar to pry the shock to compress it a little bit and to get these bolts to line up. And the same—similar on the passenger side. The shock goes forward, in front of the axle, instead of behind the axle. But procedure is the same.

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the rear shocks on this 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500. It's the same part and process on the Silverados and Sierras from 2008 to 2013. The items you'll need are: new rear shocks from 1AAuto.com, a jack and jack stands, penetrating oil, 21 millimeter socket and ratchet, a piece of pipe for leverage, 21 millimeter wrench, a torque wrench, and a hammer.
The shocks are obviously located right under the vehicle, attached to the rear-end and up to the frame. We're going to show you the left side, and the right side is the same procedure. To start off, you're going to want to spray some penetrating oil on these bolts, the one at the bottom, and then the one up at the top. Using a 21 millimeter socket and ratchet with a piece of pipe, you want to loosen up that bolt. You'll see that the actual bolt will keep turning in there, so you're going to want to use a 21 millimeter wrench on the other side, and just loosen up that nut and remove it. You want to do the same thing to the upper bolt, but you won't need a wrench for this because the nut is actually welded to the truck. Using a hammer, just hit that bolt out. You can use another bolt or a small screwdriver. Just hit that in to push the bolts out. Once that bolt is removed, swing that down and you can pull the bolts out from up top.
Here's the old part in the front, and the new part from 1A Auto in the back. You can see they're identical. They'll fit exactly the same. Now, take your new rear shock, and put it up into place. Replace the bolt. Now, you want to swing that lower part into position. If you can see there, it wasn't actually going to reach. What you want to do is either lower your vehicle so there's a little bit of pressure on the wheels to push that up, or just put a jack underneath this, and bring it up. You're really just trying to get that high enough so that it will match up with the shock. Now as you can see, the bolt slides right in. You just want to replace that nut. We'll fast-forward as he tightens these two bolts up. Now torque the nut on the lower part to 80 to 85 foot pounds, and the same with the bolt up top. Then go ahead and replace the other side. We always recommend you replace your shocks in pairs.

I received these parts just to find out they do not fit and one of the struts was also in the completely incorrect orientation. I recommend not buying these, its not worth the risk, I had to put my old struts back on just so I can drive the truck to go to a part store to buy the correct parts. For parading around the word quality all over their website this was not remotely close to quality.

I have had a amazing experience buying from 1A Auto. UPS had dropped the ball with my packages, yet the folks working for customer service were top notch! They reassured me that if UPS had completely lost my package (which they did for about a week) they would send on express shipped for free. Luckily they didn't have to in the end. My only issue with the company as a whole would be is told hold their shipper up to a higher standard. I understand they have policies in place before a package is considered lost but I just felt there was no sense of urgency on getting my parts to me quickly. install & parts the same, install was easy despite it being 116 degrees in Arizona lol, truck rides so much smoothly and not bouncing all over when going over speed bumps, next project is pretty much whole suspension due to parts wearing out.

I purchased this kit and it had all the parts for the 100k maint. They fit perfectly. Took two hours but it went flawless. I would recommend for any Chevy truck owner. The shop wanted $1100 for these parts, so I saved some cash as well.

Found two kits that replace the whole of the front end of my 2011 Chevy Silverado with 146,700 miles on it. It had been making noises in the front when driving and the ride didn't seem as comfortable. The parts came in quickly and when I went to work found most of the front end in pretty bad shape. With A1 how-to videos and some mechanical experience I was able to replace all the parts in the two kits the made my frontend ride and steering like new again. Doing it myself saves me a bundle of cash. All the parts are quality and the videos thorough. Thank you, A1 for renewing my truck.

I would highly recommend you watch there video on the replacement of the struts. Once you watch it, you'll be able to replace the struts in about 30 minutes per side without any problems. These fit exactly like the factory ones and ride great
For the money you can't beat the price. I would recommend these struts to anyone

1st time ordering from 1aauto. Replaced struts, sway bar links, inner and outer tie rods, brakes and rotors. Went to put the brakes on and the metal backs fell off and new clips didnt fit the calipers on a 2007 Chevy Silverado 4x4. Other than this issue everything else was good and installed correctly.

So I purchased this kit to replace my old factory shocks and struts with 170k miles. Sadly this new kid rides just about the same as my old worn out suspension. Not sure what the issue might be but it sucks. I also tried getting a refund or replacement parts and I guess I have to pay for shipping. Maybe next time Ill spend a little more and just buy OEM parts. Install was easy and parts did fit good over all.

Excellent parts no surprises. Shipping containers very solid.
My 11 year old granddaughter helped me to replace the back shocks and the front shock coil spring assemblies. When we watched your tech on the video her response was " We can do that grandpa" I struggled on the passenger front side. Trying to remove the stabilizer bolt. Just cut it off. Second side was 1hr 15 min tire on to tire on. Already sent some friends your way.

Purchased and installed this set on a 2011 Silverado 1500 4x4. Everything fit as expected and the entire job went more smoothly than probably any work I've ever done on the truck. This kit has made this job idiot-proof. Only issue I had was that the hardware for one of the front struts had fallen out of the package during transit, but that was UPS' fault, not 1A's. 1A customer service was extremely responsive on the issue and offered to send me the correct bolts, but I had already grabbed replacements from a local shop so I could get the job over with. I highly recommend this kit.

Fantastic perfect fit all parts. Easy install on my 2012 GMC. Corrected a spongy ride.
Only negative all boxes took a beating in shipping. Lack of packing around parts all lowed parts to rip through and out of boxes.

Install went well, but the coil springs had zero flex. Drove it for about 400 miles hoping the coils would break in but they didnt. The front of the truck would leave the ground no matter how slow I went over any kind of bump, basically the truck was unsafe to drive. Called 1A and they immediately sent me new front coil/shock assemblies. Ive driven the truck about 300 miles with the new assemblies and the ride is better but still a lot stiffer than normal, I think its safe to drive but will probably reinstall the original factory coils/shocks. Rear shocks work great! Bottom line is 1A was great to work with, unfortunately their vendor makes a product that is made with steel coils that are way too stiff.

They were simple to put in an fit very well. The only problem I had was that their was black paint on the rubber bushings. This is from them painting it after assembling the unit and not taping the rubber bushings. I do not thing it will affect performance but is a show of lower quality workmanship. Understandable at this price point.

Everything fit perfectly and the truck rides well. I'm glad the front sway bar links were included -- mine were broken and I didn't know until we went under to replace the strut/spring assemblies, which are convenient. I'll do the same next time even if it only need the struts.

They are loaded by a strap around them top to bottom.
You will get them in position, bolt them in and cut the strap.
Pretty easy install if you are somewhat used to wrenching.

There's a wire harness that comes out of the top of the front strut. If you don't have that you don't have electronic suspension.
