Hi, I'm Mike Green. I'm one of the owners of 1A Auto. I want to help you save time and money repairing and maintaining your vehicle. I'm going to use my 20 plus years experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1AAuto.com. The right parts installed correctly. That's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace an outside rear view mirror on this 2001 Chevy Malibu, same as any '97 to '03 Malibu. Tools you'll need are pretty basic, flat blade screwdriver; Phillips screwdriver; and 7mm and 10mm sockets with a ratchet and extension.
With your 8mm wrench, disconnect your negative battery cable. This is more just to protect your battery from running down while you have the door open.
We're going to fast forward to removing the door panel. If you want to see this in regular speed, you just check out our other videos, but it's probably enough here to figure out. Remove the switch, unplug it, remove the bezel around the door handle, a couple other bezels and pull the door panel off.
For the rear view mirror, pull this down just a little bit. You can see here's your lead right here. You just pull up on a little tab and pull that out. Up here is your mirror itself. See, it's held in by three 10mm bolts. Pull that tab back, disconnect the lead. 10mm socket on a ratchet extension. The studs are kind of long so you actually have to kind of disconnect your socket a little bit. Get it on there, start them.
Mirror comes off. Here's our original mirror, new mirror from 1A Auto, nice high quality. It's going to bolt on there correctly. You can see on this vehicle the original mirror was black, so replacing it with a black, plastic mirror is fine. If your mirror matches the color of your vehicle and you want to do that, basically what you can do is go to an automotive parts store with a paint department. They can get your paint code, they can help you find your paint code for your vehicle, mix you up some paint to match and put into an air-charged can and you can re-spray the mirror yourself to match.
Beyond that, it's going to go right in, feed the lead in. sort of pinch, stand up, looks like your studs are going through, tighten it, carefully start these nuts. You do want to reuse the original, I've got one started. The lead comes down, in place, put that back.
Like in the beginning, we're going to fast forward to putting the door panel on. Make sure you pull those harnesses through and then everything kind of goes back in reverse order. In addition to this, just make sure you reconnect your negative battery cable and you'll be all set to go.
If you want to see replacing this door panel in regular speed, just check out our other videos.
