Poor wire routing.
The mirror works fine but for some reason they decided to reroute the wires differently from the original. Instead of running the wire bundle under everything somebody felt the need to run the wires, that are approximately 3 times the size of the original wires, over the top in the back of the mirror. The location and thickness of the wires made it impossible to properly snap the original color matching back plate into place. I finally had to use double sided tape to hold the outer edge in place because the thick wires were pushing up on it from the inside. It still doesn't fit as tight as it should but so far it has stayed in place. While the mirror functions as it should the routing of the wires was a major engineering fail.

Is the mirror a G M product for a 2018 Malibu power and turn signal?
This is not a GM product. It is an aftermarket part in the TRQ brand. As long as your vehicle is listed to fit and has the exact same options this mirror has, then this part will be a direct replacement of the OE part.
