Open the hood and secure.
Pull up on the two tabs anchoring the head light assembly.
Unplug and replace the bulbs or unplug the harness to replace the head light assembly.

Close the hood and enjoy your new 1A Auto headlight assemblies and/or bulbs.
Brought to you by 1AAuto.com, your source for quality replacement parts and the best service on the internet. In this video, we show you how to replace the headlight; both just replacing the headlight bulb as well as replacing the entire headlight assembly on this 2001 Chevy Malibu, same as any '97 to 2003. No tools are necessary, but you'll probably find that you want to use a flat-blade screwdriver to help you out in a couple spots.
First, there are two tabs; one here, and one here. They may pull up just with your fingers. You may need to use a screwdriver to get some leverage on it, but those pull up, and then you can see that the headlight just pulls right out. If you're just looking to change a bulb, okay, the bulbs ... You just push the harness right off. The bulbs twist counter-clockwise, then come out and push back in the same way. It is the same thing with this one. I'm going to disconnect this and then this. You press this little tab here, twist, and pull that off. Here's the new light from 1A Auto ... the original light. See how much more clear the lens is. It's going to help you see better at night.
Now, obviously, if your old headlight is broken, you're going need to install a new one. I'm just going to pull the plastic off a little bit. Reconnect the harness connections to the headlight and then my parking light. Just make sure you have the tabs pulled all the way up and put it right in, just like the original, push that side down. I just used my screwdriver to push down a little better than my thumb. Remove the plastic. Nice new nice headlight.
