In this video we're going to show you how to remove and reinstall the exterior driver's door handle on this 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. This information is going to be similar for the other door handles on the vehicle. Be sure that the window is rolled up before starting this repair. Here are the items you'll need: New door handle from 1AAuto.com, 8-10mm sockets, ratchet and extension, flat blade screwdriver, #2 and #3 Phillips screwdriver, T-25 Torx driver.

Remove the 10mm bolt in the inside edge of the door handle. Remove the door handle from the opening. Remove the #3 Phillips behind the door handle, and in this top corner, two #2 Phillips on the bottom of the panel. Lift up on the door panel to release. Then we'll have to disconnect the two connectors from the window switch. Peel back the weather coating on the inside of the door panel.

Remove the white and blue clips from the latch rods at the back of the door handle. These simply press off and rotate out of the way so you're able to remove the hooks. Remove these two 8mm nuts with a socket ratchet and extension. We'll hold the back of the handle so we can open it. Work the exterior door handle from the door.

Here we have our old door handle that we removed from our 2008 Dodge Ram 1500, and our new door handle from 1AAuto.com. As you can see, these parts are exactly the same, with the exception of our old part still having the lock cylinder installed in it.

One screw changes that over into our new one. A lot of the time these clips can break and keep the latch rod from staying in place. The spring can break and keep the handle from returning to its normal position, as well as the actual plastic of the door handle breaking. So if any of these symptoms are making it difficult to get in and out of your vehicle, this new door handle from 1AAuto.com is going to go, direct fit just like your original equipment and fix you up right.

Change over the lock cylinder from our old door handle to our new one. We'll remove this T25 Torx screw with the Torx bit and a ratchet. Slide the lock cylinder out and into our replacement door handle. Reinstall the screw.

Now it's ready to be reinstalled into our truck. Pull out on the door handle so it will drop this latch down. Install it into the door and reinstall the two 10mm nuts. Reinstall the latch rods into the hole, and lock the clips back into place. It may help to use a small flat blade screwdriver for the blue clip. Re-adhere the weather cover.

Pop off the door lock bezel by pushing from the back. Reinstall your two window switch connectors. Line up the tabs in the door panel. Slide your door panel into place. Pop the door lock bezel back into place. Reinstall your four door panel screws. Hold your screw in place for the interior handle. Line it up and tighten it down.

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the outside door handle on this 2004 Dodge Ram, same for any '02 to '08 1500 and then '02 to '09 2500 and 3500. Tools you'll need to do this job are a T40 Torx driver, Phillips screwdriver, flat blade screwdriver, a 10 millimeter wrench or socket and ratchet and 8 millimeter or socket and ratchet and a T25 Torx driver. That's only for removing and replacing the lock on the driver side door.

To remove your front door panel, you're going to start by removing a T40 Torx screw that holds your handle on, right there. Then you're going to remove four Phillips screws: one there, one up here and then two down the lower part of your door panel. Here's my T40 Torx driver. We're going to speed it up here, take that T40 screw out and then your handle comes off. Then, I'm going to start with the Phillips screwdriver. Take those two off and then slyly take my jacket off so you can see my 1A Auto sweatshirt and remove the two lower Phillips screws. I'll use a regular screwdriver, carefully pry up on your switch plate here then pull it up. Both these connectors have a little button right here. Press the button and work the connector off the switch. Do the same thing here for the button right there. Now, just lift the door panel up and over the lock here. It comes off.

You want to use the 10 millimeter wrench or socket and ratchet. There's a bolt here. There's also a bolt there but it's missing. I'm not sure if this door may have been taken apart before. Then, there's a little clip, right here, that you either push down with your hand or pull it down and then you pull this one right out. Then, you want to carefully pull your water shield down.

To get to the door handle, make sure your window's all the way up. First, we're going to remove the two 8 millimeter nuts. We'll use a little fast forward to go through that. Now, you basically want to get in here. With your thumb, you can push that right off and then pull your rod out. What we're going to do is, see that pink clip in there? We're going to reach around with our finger to the back side and pull that clip off. What you're basically going to see is a good shot of my shoulder. Pull the pink clip in there with your finger. It comes off. Then pull the rod out by pulling it towards the inside of the door. The lock rod comes out. Now for your handle, you're going to bring it off here first, slide it forward a little bit and then it comes out. It just got hung up on the rod a little bit.

Now, you're going to want to change your lock mechanism over. It's a T25 Torx screw. Remove the screw. The lock comes right out. Here's a new handle from 1A Auto. You can see it's just the same as the original. Put the lock in. Put the screw in. Tighten it up. You'd want to tip your handle up and insert the rod for your handle itself and then the lock, the blue lock on there, or the clear lock if it's a new handle, then put the handle in. You'll need to pull the handle a little bit. Get the back in place. Slide it back a little bit and on. Flip that lock on to it. I'll put my 8 millimeter screws and nuts back on. Again, we'll use a little fast forward as we just put those nuts on by hand, and then, use our wrench or you can use a socket and ratchet to tighten them up.

Once the handle is tight, then we just put the water shield back in place. Put our inside door handle back on and tighten the nuts for that. Then, you want to insert the rod and lock the clip on. Before you put the door panel back on, you want to take this lock bezel and push the clips in and pop it off. It has little teeth there. It just has little teeth there that hold it in. You're just going to push them with your finger over. Put it back on. What you want to do is . there's teeth at the bottom . kind of rest it like that and bring it up. Pull your harness up, out of the way. Lock your door. Press your door, lock it down. Take that up and over, pull it back up. You might have to pull it up just a little bit and slide it down. We've got to put the four Phillips screws back in. We'll fast forward through just putting those four Phillips screws in and tightening them up. For your switch, put the smaller connector in then the larger connector. You feed the wiring down in. Push it down in. For our door handle, I'm just going to put my extension and my bit in into place. Then you pretty much start turning. It pretty much finds its own way. Then for your lock, push that right down and you're all set

In this video, we're going to show how to remove and replace the rear door handle on this 2004 Dodge Ram quad cab, same as any '02 to '08, plus any '09 2500 or 3500. Tools you'll need are 8mm and 10mm sockets with ratchet and extension and a Phillips screwdriver.

First, you're going to remove two fasteners. There is either a T40 Torx Bit or a 10mm socket bolt there holding your door handle on and then a Phillips screw right there. Here's the T40 Torx Bit or the 10mm socket with an extension. You'll need the extension with the Torx Bit as well. I'm going to use the 10mm socket. Pull your door handle up a little bit. As I'm turning, I'm just pulling out on the handle a little bit. Here's the 10mm screw. Then your door panel just comes up. Walk your door like that, and pull that out. Behind, there is a connector, here, for your power window. You just push down here and disconnect and then the door panel comes right off.

To remove the outside door handle, pull back your water shield some and then there are two 8mm bolts: one there, and then, using a screwdriver, push down and pry off this little plug and that exposes another 8mm nut there. Here's our plug. Then use an 8mm socket with a ratchet and extension. I'm just speeding it up here as I just remove those nuts and you just want to make sure to be careful not to drop those down under your door. It's hard to find. Now what you're going to want to do is to pull the handle out, pull it to the open position just a little bit, pull it down, and now, there's a little clip right here you need to push. You need to push with a pair of pliers or a screwdriver or something or just use your finger and then the handle comes off and you can see my handle here is fine.

Just to show you how to re-install it, reverse the procedure. Put the rod in, pull the clip down, lock it on, force that down just a little bit, get that counterweight up and in, slide it back some and it's on. I'll take our 8mm nuts. If you like . actually these are already sticky, so, at the factory, they may have put just a little glue on to help them hold on. Put a little glue just so they hold in to your socket, and turn. We'll speed it up as just turn those in by hand. Again, just be very careful not to drop them down in the door. Now, I'll tighten them up. They don't have to be incredibly tight.

To put it back on, first what you're going to want to do is pop this bezel around your door lock off, which just requires you to push on the little teeth from the bottom here and then unsnap it. Now there are two teeth down here. Just hook those in a little bit. Pull your plug lead for your power window out a little bit and plug that in. Then push it in. You may have to lift up just a little bit, make sure that the lock comes through. Push down. Make sure all your edges are nice and tight against the door. Put our screw in. Take your door handle, put the socket or the Torx bit right on it. Loop it in there. Pretty much you'll start turning and it finds its way. Then, for your lock bezel, put that over and it snaps on.
