Brought to you by 1AAuto.com, your source from quality replacement parts and the best service on the internet. Hi, I'm Mike from 1AAuto. I hope this how-to video helps you out and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video we're going to show you how to service a taillight on this '96 Ford F150, pretty much the same as any '92-'96 F150, 250 and 350, as well as the '97 F250's and F350's. You probably just need a Phillips screwdriver. This truck has one of the screws that is a little bit rusty and stuck, so I have to use a couple of other tools that I show you.
These taillights are pretty straight forward repair. There are two Phillips screws on the outside and then there are two Phillips screws also right here on the inside. There and there. OK, we'll start with the inner ones first. Put the screwdriver in there. They can be a little rusty, so I'm just using a hammer. Hit the screwdriver a few times that usually breaks the screw loose. OK, one of these is rather tough, so this is actually an impact driver and what you do is you turn it to cock it, and then when you hit it, it both presses the tip in and turns it at the same time.
I'm just going to load that into the screw here, pushing against it and turning. OK. I hit it with the hammer and it comes loose. Worst case scenario, if you have a bolt on these that's really tough, if your taillight's broken, you can actually just break the taillight away and then the screw will come out. The other thing is, you can drill the head of the screw off and take the rest of the light out. It's coming out for me. Take those out. I just pull the light away. If you're just looking to change the bulb, these sockets twist counter-clockwise and come out. OK, the bulbs just pull right out of the socket, and back in; same thing down here. Push the other socket back in; new light from 1aauto, exactly the same as the old light. OK. So go right back on there. Just line up the sockets, get them in, twist to lock. Put this one in, twist to lock.
The taillight will go right back in place. What I'm going to do is, I'm going to push in, peek back, put your screws through and you can see back in there where the screw goes in, make sure it's lined up. Now I'm just going to start my outer screws in. I'm not going to tighten them up all the way yet. Push the light in. Just make sure the inner screws get lined up first. Start them in. OK. Then once you have them all started in, I just snug them all at first. Make sure the light is seated correctly and then tighten them up afterwards. When you tighten them up, just get them firm. You don't want tighten them up too much cause you can break the housing and break the light if you tighten them up too much.
