Hi, I'm Mike Green. I'm one of the owners of 1A Auto. I want to help you save time and money repairing or maintaining your vehicle. I'm going to use my 20-plus years experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1AAuto.com. The right parts installed correctly. That's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.
In this video, we'll be showing you outside mirror replacement on this '97 Expedition, same as any '97 to '02 Expedition or '97 to '03 F150. Tools you'll need are pretty basic, flat-blade screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver, and a ratchet and extension with 6-, 8-, and 11-mm sockets.
Okay, here we're just going to speed through taking off the door panel. You can probably pick up enough here just in the fast motion. You pry off a couple of panels, disconnect the window switch, pry out the reflector, power mirror switch. Remove a couple of screws, and the panel lifts up and off. We'll get to that, and then, we'll get to the mirror right after that.
If your truck is equipped with manual mirrors, then you have three 11-mm bolts right here that you can remove and replace the mirror. This truck is equipped with power mirrors, so we're going to have to remove this water shield. First thing you have to do is remove your door handle, and it's an 8 mm, or if you have standard sockets, 5/16, and the bolt is right in here behind the door handle. Really, the easiest way to do it is to remove this 8-mm bolt first. Then, that bolt is right there. Pull it out. Okay, I'm going to use my socket and just kind of use it to press the teeth here. Get that off. Handle slides.
Then, the speaker is 6 mm, also 7/32 works if don't really have standard sockets. Remove the four bolts on the speaker. Carefully pull the speaker out. Then, unhook it. You might need to use a screwdriver to disconnect the speaker wire. Just kind of pry out on tab with the screwdriver. Going to pull the connector, and now, you want to carefully remove this water shield. You want to avoid ripping it.
Okay, once it's off, you want to lay it somewhere flat to keep it safe. Now, your mirror connects right down here. Disconnect by prying that tab back, pulling down. Kind of feed that connection through, and now, we're going to remove these three 11-mm nuts. Okay, and then there's the mirror out.
Okay, so make sure when you order your new mirror from 1A Auto that you get the same options. This truck is power mirror with no heat, but anyways, I'm just showing you how to take the mirror out and put it in, so I'm just going to reinstall this mirror the way it is real quick, because there's nothing wrong with it.
Feed the harness down in. Put the mirror back in place. Usually start your top nut first. It kind of holds everything together. Got to get them hand tight. Not really push on the wrench too much. Okay, now, grab your harness and it feeds right through here. Actually, the way I'm feeding it through here is wrong. I was doing it the way it was when I took it apart, and then, I realized that this truck had been apart before, and it should just actually go down below and then come up. It should not go through that little square hole.
All back together, and you're all set. And now here, we're just going to speed through putting the water shield and the door panel back on. If you want to see these in regular motion, just check out our video for the door panel removal and replacement. But other than that, you should probably gain enough here, plus taking it apart, which usually makes it easier to get it back together, but yeah, we hope this helps you out.
