Brought to you by 1AAuto.com; Your source for quality replacement parts and the best service on the internet. Hi, I'm Mike Green, I'm one of the owners of 1AAuto. I want to help you save time and money repairing and maintaining your vehicle. I am going to use my 20 plus years experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1AAuto.com. The right parts installed correctly. That is going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.
In this video, we are going to show you headlight replacement on this 1997 Expedition. It's the same as any 97 to 02 Expedition or 97 to 03 F150. The only tool you will need is probably a T20 Torx driver and actually you might even be able to do it without any tools at all.
Okay, so maybe you have been in an accident and you need to replace your headlights or maybe you are just looking to update the front end of your truck. If you watch the driver's side or as you look at the right hand headlight, you see it gets nice little brighter. That is what nice new headlights will do for you and then as you can see, now the front end of this truck we took about 100 thousand miles off the truck just with a new set of lights and it is easy to do. So to remove a headlight, you have two tabs here on the top. What you want to do is pull up some okay and push back and then go up further. Same thing on this one, up, push back, and up further. Okay and now you can generally get the light out. You may decide that you want to make it easier use a T20 Torques driver and remove your parking lights.
Okay, remove your parking lights and you do that by removing that bolt and pull your parking light out. This allows you to get a little more room here to work with the headlights. Sometimes they will get caught on the grill. Just pull your headlights forward and there is a connector here and you can just use your fingers and push that connector off. Okay and if you are just looking to change your light bulb, especially on this drivers side you cannot get to it from the back, so you just twist that ring and remove the bulb and change it. Put it back together, lock the ring on. Here is our new light from 1AAuto and here is the old light from the truck and you can see that the new light from 1AAuto is all the same. All the mounts are the same, the light is going to go in the same and everything. The new light is obviously just clearer and brighter. If you have a broken headlight obviously this is going to be the fix for you and also if you are looking to refresh the front end of your truck, the new headlight will help.
A couple tips before you install them, just kind of eyeball all three of these adjusters and kind of get them into the same distance. With the distance that you want to look at is between the middle of this bulb to this groove here and you just want to make sure that distance is basically all the same. That will be a good preliminary aiming for your headlights. Another tip is just make sure all your stars I guess are this way. Okay, the grooves that go in and they have to go between those stars, so you want to make sure they are all like that with the point of the stars pointing diagonally. Okay to install you can see this has a little groove in it. They all go into these slots here. So what you want to do first is obviously connect your headlights okay and then you really want to look at the inside one.
Okay, what you are looking to do here is to make sure that this clip gets into this groove here. Okay so you can kind of see inside there, hopefully you can still see that. Now that you have the inside one, okay so now you can focus on these outer ones and you can see how these adjusters kind of go in those grooves. This is where not having that parking light in there really helps because you can get your fingers right in there and move stuff around. Now you got them right in there. Okay and now looking down you can see that all of my studs are through, even the little one. That black plastic is right through. You can push your tabs down. Okay, your light is in nice and secure and you can re-install side marker light. Make sure your lower flood is in the light and the upper. Push it back in and your T20 nut and bolt. Then turn on the lights, do a test to make sure everything is working well.
