Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the brake light switch on this 2005 Ford F150. It's the same part and similar process on these F150s from 2004 to 2008. The items you'll need for this are a new brake light switch from 1AAuto.com and a pair of needle nose pliers.
Down underneath your dash, up by the brake pedal, you'll see this neon green clip. Just push on the tab with your needle nose pliers until it pops out. Then pull that clip off. Then you'll see this neon green cotter pin; just pull that out. Then you just pull this bar from the brake pedal and then pull the switch off. Push the tab on the harness and disconnect it.
Up top is the old brake light switch. Below it is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical and they'll fit exactly the same. Reconnect your new brake light switch and then there's a bushing that goes in the master cylinder activating bar. Make sure that's in there. It felt out when we took ours apart. Put that onto the brake pedal rod just so it's flush with the end, and then the u-shaped part of the switch slides up on the inside until . you've got to push it up there with a little bit of force . until the hole lines up. Once the hole lines up you can push that onto the pedal the rest of the way. Now reinstall your safety clip and then the little safety locking shroud. Just press the pedal and you should see your brake lights light up.
We hope this video helps you out. Brought to you by www.1AAuto.com, your source for quality replacement parts and the best service on the Internet. Please feel free to call us toll-free, 888-844-3393. We're the company that's here for you on the Internet and in person.

For the money it is HALF the cost of the ford oem replacement. I called my local stealership and they wanted 53~+/- dollarie doos and then i remembered this website from the youtube videos on how to install parts. 23 bucks, works like a charm , fixed my rear tail lights turning on then off at random when i pushed the brake. this is worth it. so far its been about a month that i've had this on my truck and I have no real complaints as of yet.

All of my brake lights on my Navigator quit working all at once. After googling for a solution I came across a 1A Auto YouTube instructional video for a similar truck. I bought a brake light switch for my truck, duplicated the steps in the video and voila, working brake lights! Prior to watching the video or attempting the repair, I had the switch replacement quoted at my local dealership. They quoted several hundred dollars for a job that cost me about twenty minutes and less than $30 in parts. Very happy with the purchase!

Perfect fit for my 2006 F150. Took less than 5 minutes to replace. Only issue, is that it took a few extra days for the Post Office to deliver. Understandable under the current pandemic situation.
Don't buy this

This switch did not work with my truck, it was the right part, but the connection point was so poor and loose that it did not work. Ended up taking the truck to a shop where they bought a ford factory switch and it worked.
Easy and Simple

Easy to purchase and find what I needed. Installation video made it super easy. Love trying to do things myself and 1A definitely helps equip me to do so. Unfortunately changing the brake switch did not fix my issue. On to the next part!

Customer Q&A
I followed the video - which was a great help! Removed my original Ford marked part but there was no bushing as described in the video. Is the bushing necessary? Everything seems snug and functional.September 8, 2017

I'm not sure if it's necessary but if everything is snug and it works go with it!

It should be fine. If not just put a thin washer to hold it tight.

Sorry, it has been a couple years since I installed mine and don't remember is had a a bushing or not.

Some applications insist on having a bushing, while others do not. If your vehicle does not have a bushing and the part fits snug you are OK to proceed. If there is any play it is recommended to purchase a bushing for complete safe repair.

Mine had a bushing, but the only thing that did was snug it up. Mine was a little loose without it. If it is snug, you should be fine. Test it out, if it works, I wouldn't worry about it.

Tail lights go on and off by Themselves with out Key in ignition ?August 4, 2020

Need more detail in your question. Are your brake/tail lights coming on without touching the brake pedal or are your brake/tail lights acting like there is a short somewhere? I believe the brake lights will illuminate when the pedal is depressed with or without key in ignition. Our problem at the time was that the brake lights on our 2005 f150 would not always come on. This little device resolved.

Could this be why my cruise control doesn't work???April 16, 2021

After doing some research for my 04 f-150, I saw that it could be a reason. I replaced and no luck. However, it led to another possible solution. If you can put truck in drive without pressing brake pad. It could be the shifter actuator. Located inside floor shifter. About 125.00 new and used about 75.00. I havent tried yet. Good luck!

Could this be why my cruise control doesn't work???April 16, 2021
Shaun S
10
No. This is not related to cruise control at all. It is simply a switch that turns on brake lights when you press the brake.

If your cruise control isn't working on an F-150, it's the pressure switch at the master cylinder.. some Ford trucks also have a fuse at the switch on the master cylinder. Start here first and you will probably find your problem
