In this video, we'll be showing you how to remove and replace the door-lock actuator in this 2006 F-150, same as any '04 to '06 F-150. Tools you'll need are various metric sockets, and you can use some standard socket substitutions, a small flat-blade screwdriver, putty knife, and a rag to protect your paint, and a T-27 Torx driver. Okay, we're going to kind of fast-forward through removing the door panel. You can probably pick up enough here to get the job done, but we do have this in regular speed on our other videos. So just bear with this. You can follow along. Bear with it for probably another 20, 25 seconds and get to the actuator.
Okay, to access the inside of the door panel, what you want to do is carefully remove your plastic. Okay. It's just stuck on by a bunch of sticky stuff, and just pull it carefully. You don't want to rip this at all because you want to be able to install it just the way it was. Okay, so I removed the plastic, and then I laid it out all nice and flat because we don't want it getting all stuck to itself. Okay, to access your exterior door handle, there's two bolts right here that are covered by little plugs. I've removed one. Okay. What I recommend, to do as little damage as possible to these plugs, is work the screwdriver underneath, then into the door, okay, and then pop it, so that you can remove that 10-millimeter screw.
Okay. Now I apologize. I didn't get a good shot of these two more 10-millimeter bolts holding the front of the door handle on. Normally, I'd take a shot of them, but I kind of hit the wrong button. So you remove those 10-millimeter nuts and go from there. Then you can reach right up in there and take the nuts off the rest of the way. You don't drop them. Okay. So now once your door handle is unbolted, and notice I don't have the door closed here, you pull out the front of it and you slide it forward a little bit and then you twist it. Okay. You're also kind of pushing down on it very carefully, okay, and it actually comes right out. Three T-27 torque screws, I'm going to remove those.
To get the lock mechanism out, first you're going to want to take off this window guide right here. It's a little 10-millimeter screw. Okay. Now you're going to remove this clip. I just stick my finger back in there, push down on the clip, and the top side comes out. Okay. Then I push up and that comes out, and it's just a little arrow clip. Okay, and then you want to push this clip out. I'm going to use a screwdriver. You can kind of push on it and push the ribs through. And then this is your lock bar. It comes down. What you actually want to do is pull your lock mechanism up clear of the window right next to it, and then right out.
Okay. To replace your door-lock actuator, okay, you unplug the harness there. Okay, and then it's actually just kind of clipped on, so you put your screwdriver right in here. Okay, and then pull the actuator, until you get it to move a little bit, right up out. Okay. So I reinstall the actuator. Let's see. Just make sure you have your lock rod pointing up so that this doesn't get in the way of where the pin goes. And it just kind of slides back on there into place. Make sure that the pin goes into the mechanism and it clicks in, and then make sure you securely attach your harness.
To reinstall, put the rods in put everything through. Make sure this is up and through, and make sure your door-handle rod is up. Clip that into place. Have one of your T-27 screws ready. Get things into place. Start one of these screws to hold it. Okay, again, make sure this lock-rod is clipped in correctly. Okay, put the cable back, and re-clip your harness here Okay, then tighten them up. Okay, and then to put it back in, here's your rod here. Pull on it. Bring it up, and you can actually go this way. Get that in underneath. Okay. Lift it back. Push it back and then in. Then I'll do a quick test. Okay. And then I'll just bolt it back in. Okay, and after you've bolted the door handle back in, tighten it up. Just make sure you put your little plugs back in.
Okay, so now we're ready to put the water shield back on. Okay. What we want to do is there are a few reference points here, and we want to make sure we line up those reference points and basically stick it to the same spot. Okay. From here on out, we're going to be in fast motion. Actually, we're going to kind of cut it off just to stay within the YouTube 10 minutes, but it's basically putting the water shield back on and then the door panel. If you want to see this, putting the door panel on in regular motion and the complete thing, just check out our other YouTube videos. In this video, we're going to show you how to replace a power door lock actuator very common problems on these trucks. If your door locks no longer work on one or more of the doors, this is what you need to do. We're doing it on an '03 F250 on the driver's side. The passenger side is similar. It's similar any '01 to '07 super duty truck. Tools you'll need: 7 mm, 10 mm and 11 mm sockets with a ratchet and extension. You'll need a flat blade screwdriver, and a T27 Torx Bit that uses a ratchet handle. If you wanted to prevent the battery from running down if you have the doors open for an extended period of time, just disconnect your negative battery cable. Using an 8mm wrench loosen up the nut and then pull the cable off. Using a small flat blade screwdriver take this lens pop it off. Mine is actually broken. It should pry out here. Pop it off. Here you're going to do the same thing. Just kind of pull up your handle. Use your screwdriver a little bit right in the front. Pull that up. Pull it forward and then you disconnect all the harnesses. There's little push tabs on them. Push on the tabs with your thumb. Pull the harness here. Push on the tab here, the tab here. Push on it and remove it.
It's the same thing here. You just pull down this trip handle. It's got two clips that hold it on. Now there are two 7mm bolts; one right there, and then one right there. 7 mm socket with a ratchet and extension. A ratchet will work as well. Fast-forward as I just remove those two bolts. Once those two bolts are out just lift up on your panel and bring it out. Then in behind is your courtesy light. Just turn it counterclockwise and pull the socket out and your door panel comes off. I'm going to pull back our water shield so we can see right in here. If it's not already, just make sure that your window is rolled all the way up. You want to remove a 10 mm bolt right here. Separate or disconnect the lock rod by pulling it with your finger and then using a screwdriver to pry apart the clip with your hand. Then it will separate from the teeth and pull it out. Now there's two 11 mm bolts since you took that bolt out down there, you can pull this out of the way. There's one of them, and then right up here remove this plug and there's the other one in there. Using an 11 mm socket with a ratchet and extension. I'm just going to fast-forward it as I remove those two 11 mm nuts. Now you can pull your handle out, and then using your screwdriver there's a clip right down here. You can see a little green tab right there. Pry against that. Open that clip up. Pull that rod out, and then your door handle comes right out. Next use a screwdriver and you just want to undo that clip that is holding the rod right there for the latch. Use your screwdriver to remove the two mounting pins for the door handle cable and push them through. Use a T27 Torx Bit and remove these three screws here. Just fast-forward here a little bit. You heard me snap that first one free.
You do need that T27 Torx Bit that attaches to the ratchet handle so you can get the extra torque on it because they will be difficult. I'm going to pull the lock mechanism away, take this rod, pull that out. I'm just going to push this track to the side and pull the whole lock mechanism down just enough to remove the lock actuator. Use a screwdriver and just pull up on that tab and disconnect. Then what you want to do, there's a little tab right in here that you pry up on and then this whole actuator should just slide off this lock mechanism there. There's the actuator off. Just going to pull out this wiring harness. There's your old actuator off. You can see on the actuator here's that little tab that you just kind of pried away from the lock mechanism to get it off. New actuator from 1A Auto is slightly different than the original, but it's going to work just fine. This is actually patterned after a later design from Ford. It will just go right on. There are two tabs here that you just have to line up. Get this harness out of the way. It snaps right on. Make sure that the arm goes back in here correctly, and then it plugs in exactly the same. You can put this harness pin right here. All ready to reinstall. Make sure this arm is kind of with you right there. I'm going to speed it up here. You feed the lock mechanism back up in there. Be careful not to get any of the wires caught on the track or anything like that.
The lock rod that comes down from the door lock on top should go outside of the cable. Then you can start your screws in, and also just make sure that the rod that comes up that attaches to the door handle lock, it doesn't get stuck in the wrong spot. Let's just make sure everything's here. Here's the rod that's going to connect to our lock. Tighten up those Torx screws, and then I went to clip the door handle cable back in realized that I put the lock rod in wrong so I switched that around and then clipped that cable in correctly. Here I'm going to do a test and I reconnected the battery. I'll disconnect it afterwards. Unlock, lock, unlock, lock. It's working correctly. Make sure we leave it unlocked. Just want to make sure that this rod which is the lock rod is kind of out of the way. You can just let that one drop down in there and it's easy enough to get it afterwards. Put the handle in. Put your bolt into your socket. Put it right in. Start the top one. Now the bottom one, push your channel over. Just fast-forward as I start and tighten up those two nuts to hold the handle in place. Quick test. Make sure that your door is unlocked and then close it and open it. Put that bolt back in place.
Tighten it up right where it was scratching the door before. Put your water shield back in and then put that little filler plug back in. To reinstall the door panel, what you want to do is take your bottom clips and they're actually designed to just kind of go on here and rest in place. You can reach down and put in your courtesy light and turn it clockwise to lock it in. Then make sure all these harnesses come up through. Press it against. Lift it up a little bit. Make sure your door lock comes through. Press it against. You kind of lift it up a little bit, push it in and bring it down on. Make sure you're nice and tight against the door, and nice and tight against the door over here. We'll speed it up again as I take those two 7 mm screws, put them in and tighten them up nice and firm. Now I'm going to clip the molding on up top to cover the mirror mounting holes. Then take my switch panel reconnect all my harnesses. Then I slide the tab back into the back first and make sure no wires are getting pinched in there. Then clip it down in place. That's all set. If you disconnected your battery, then reconnect it and tighten up the 8mm bolt.

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the door lock actuator on this 2004 Ford Mustang. We do the passenger side. Driver side is a very similar procedure. This is the same for most '94 to '04 Mustangs with the power door locks and basically if one side or the other of your power door locks is not working, it's usually that this actuator has gone bad. Tools you'll need are 8 mm wrench, flat plate screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver, both regular and small size and a T27 Torx bit with a ratchet driver. It's recommended that using the 8 mm wrench to disconnect the negative battery cable on your vehicle. First, there's actually a pin on the front side right there. I use a flat blade screwdriver. Carefully pry the clip and then once you get to a certain point, you can pull it out with your fingers.
Okay. Now right on top of this panel is a little notch, you inserts a screwdriver and lightly pry out and once we have this out and the screwdriver down here and pry out and bring this right out. Okay. And then use a Phillips screwdriver to disconnect switch from this panel. On this vehicle, there are two Phillips screws right here and I remember from some of my past experience, there's either kind of a pin, like there was down here, here or a bolt, but I'm going to remove these two Phillips screws. Let's keep in mind there are maybe another fastener here as well. Okay. Around your door handle, just insert the screw driver. All right. You want to pry the bottom first, not the top and you pull it off and up here, move your fingers for - there's a screwdriver by that panel right off. Right. And now you're door panel lifts up and off. Pull your water shield back and then reach in. Okay. And you can see the rod that goes up to your door handle. It's a little yellow clip there and you reach it with your finger and pull that clip off. Okay. And then pull the rod out. And now you want the T27 Torx driver on a ratchet, remover these 3 screws here that holds your lock mechanism.
I'm just going to speed up as I take those three T27 bolts out. And now you can kind of reach in, and pull mechanism down and now you can see right here is your lock rod. You want to pull this clip back and off. That allows that to come. Okay. Now your lock rod can pull out and now you can kind of pull the whole mechanism right out through here. Now here is your door lock actuator. Right here you want to pry on this little tab here and then push your actuator off. Okay, so, and then your actuator unplugs right here. Screwdriver pry up the connector, disconnect it. Here's your new actuator from 1A Auto. This mechanism is all the same, slightly different shape, actually mounts a little easier. Okay. There's a couple of slots that you have to make sure line up on the mechanism and make sure your arm goes in. And push you on and lock it into place. Okay. Reconnect it and then put your mechanism back into the door, kind of spin it around and retrieve our lock rod. Make sure that comes up through here correctly. Push it into place. Going to walk around back in place, push it around and lock it on. Okay. So that's locked back into place.
Now we need to lock the mechanism into place. Make sure those holes line up. And speed up here again as I just put all three of those bolts in place first and then tighten them up nice and snug, you don't want to over tighten them. And ratchet came out of that old clip, put that back. Okay now, reach in here, put your rod- Now, put your water shield back in place and you're set to put the door panel back on, what you want to do is wine up here, lower tabs with the slots in the door. Okay. And then kind of lift it up, out your door lock in place, need to lift the back panel of the door a bit. Make your harness comes up through and lift up your panel on, start pushing it down in. And as you push it down in, you may see it do this. Just want to use a screwdriver and make sure that that goes down into the channel. Make sure it's down. Make sure the panel is right against the door all the way around and you put this corner, get that back on. The tab that goes into the front here to hold it. Okay. Our 2 screws at the panel here. I think we have something quite holding it here. Reinstall that. Take a switch, put it in and turn it over, start one screw. Take this, clip down in back here first and then push it down, lock it in place, and then your bezel should go into the door pull.

In this video we're going to be replacing a door lock actuator in this '04 Ford Ranger with power door locks.
Okay so tools you'll need; 8mm wrench to disconnect the battery, Phillips screwdriver, flat blade screwdriver to get the door panel apart, flash light, and mirror. Once you get inside the door, this is kind of blind replacement, so highly recommend you have a flashlight and a little mirror that you can adjust, so you can kind of see what I say when I'm giving you some of the tips and stuff. And then a small flat blade screwdriver.
So first thing you'll want to do is disconnect your negative battery cable. Start by removing 2 screws that are right down here, under the door panel, they're both Phillips screws. Depending on year and options, these screws might be from above on the door pull. Once we remove those screws, we actually just pull on this panel, and it snaps in at the top, so just gently give it a bit of a tug. See that there's clips up here and 1 down here that will hold it. Now you'll actually want to, push all these switches through. They all have little thumb tabs, to push on, come through. This mirror switch, use a little screwdriver, work it in there, pull it off. Feed that harness back through, push that switch through, push back the lock switch. Push it through, use your screwdriver, work it in and put the harness straight through.
Power window switch has a couple of screws on it, I would take them off before I feed the switch through, it's just a little easier. Power window switch here, push it down, push that tab down. Once you have the window switch through, you just want to pop this bezel off, which is just on the top of the bottom. Got to pry up like that, and pry it like that. That bezel comes off, and you can feed that through the panel, that's off. Now you want to remove 2 more screws, 1 here and 1 down here. Once those screws are out, you just lift up on the panel, lift it up over the door lock here, then it comes off. On the backside it just has a bunch of hooks, that hook into the door.
Okay, to access the inside of the door, you'll need to remove this shield. Just do it very carefully, 'cause this protects your door panel and stuff from getting water in it. Okay, I have the screwdriver out. Now here's my door lock actuator actually. See right there, there's my connector. Take my little screwdriver here, and pry out and remove it. There's my door lock actuator.
Here's the actuator out of the car. The easiest way to get it out is to understand how it's held in there. It's actually just held to a bracket, basically on this side. There is a bracket that goes in here. It's a little curve down that comes off. It's like a little tooth that comes down.
Here in the door, you can see I'm holding a little mirror to show you, and if you look in the mirror in the top middle section of the mirror, you'll see that little metal bracket. Then just to the right of that is the little hole that's actually in the actuator. So you're looking at the actuator and that metal bracket inside the door. Then there's also another little tooth where this just locks it into. Basically, imagine that this screwdriver is that bracket. You push it in, and then it just locks like that.
Okay, so what you need to do is take your screwdriver, get it in there, and push this down to unlock it. Then you kind of work it, and you work it right off the bracket. Okay, so what we're looking at here is I've just kind of tilted that mirror down some. If you look below the mirror, you'll see the handle of the screwdriver. You can also to the left, you can see the actuator. If you look in the mirror, you can see that I have the screwdriver placed in the right spot, so I can then pry on that tab, to release it from the door.
Now the door lock actuator mounts in like this, and it pushes in. Reinstall, and I'm going to actually hook my harness back on. Okay, so I've got my actuator. What I want to do is kind of push it this way, and around this window channel here. So you want to make sure you can see right here, this is my harness, that it gets on the other side. There's my connector. Make sure they get on the other side of this window channel. Push it back against the bracket. Also, what I do is I pull this up, and I pull the arm. You can reach in the back and pull the arm of the lock actuator up, so you're in the same basic place.
Basically, I'm just feeling for that bent part of that bracket with my finger. Place the actuator through here. Push it back against - that feels like it's in, back in. It's all set.
Okay, just to keep things short, I'm going to kind of fast forward putting the door panel back together. If you want to see this in regular motion, just check out our other videos for the Ranger door panel. You can probably figure it out enough by having taken it apart, and watching this. This lock actuator, it's not that difficult, but it is kind of blind replacement. But hopefully I gave you enough to go. It really helps if you have a flashlight and a mirror, to be able to see in there and kind of see what's going on, and understand from the tips that I give you.
