In this video, we are going to replace the tailgate supports struts on this '98 Explorer, same as any '95 to '01. The only tool you will need is a small flat blade screwdriver. Okay if you left supports are going bad than you are no stranger to this. The broom stick handles to hold up the tailgate. This is a pretty easy fix. Whatcha you want to do is take a screwdriver and put it in this little slot and pry this C-clamp out. And the same thing with the top one. So make sure you have your tailgate well supported, maybe even enlist the help of a friend. What you want to do is pry this C-clamp right out and you want to be lifting up on the tailgate some and pull it off. Get my stick back in here. Okay and the same thing down here. Pry off the clamp and pull it off. Here's the new one from 1A Auto and the original, all the same, just going to mount it up. Very easy to put it in, you want the narrow side down. Just a quick bang with your palm. Lift up on your tailgate. And there you go. Generally what happens with these is they warp in the summer, the gases are a little more active so they have the power to hold it up but in the winter you will find your tailgate starts sagging. So when that starts happening that's when you want to replace them.

In this video, we'll be showing you how to replace the tailgate lift supports on this Expedition, this is really the same for a whole bunch of different SUVs, whether their Fords, GMs, Chryslers, Toyotas, Hondas or whatever, the process is pretty much the same. We're replacing the tailgate struts on an Expedition here, if you're familiar with a sagging tailgate you probably have a piece of wood or something, as you can see I have a stepladder here to support the tailgate. This truck there's actually nothing wrong with the struts, it still holds the tailgate up fine, just using it as subject vehicle but obviously you want to be supporting the tailgate and really they couldn't be easier. The easiest way is to take your screwdriver, there's a little groove in here and you can pull this clip out and then it basically allows the strut to come right off. On the other end, you can kind of do the same thing, pull out with your screwdriver, you don't want to pull the clip all the way off, just pull it out some and the strut comes right off. The new struts from 1A Auto will have the same clip style to them, just make sure that the clips are back in and hold it like that. The shiny end, for a lack of a better word, goes on that end, you just push right on there and push on there and you're all set.
