What's up, guys? I'm Andy from 1A Auto. In this video, I'm going to show you how to replace the rear latch on this 2012 Ford Escape. If you need this part, or other parts for your vehicle, click the link in the description and head over to 1aauto.com.
We're going to open the liftgate. Then we want to remove these Phillips head screws. Just use a Phillips head screwdriver. Get those out. I'm just going to pull down right here, and pull down here. You can use a trim tool and get underneath there and pull it down a little bit. It's not going to come out all the way. I have to release the lift glass right here and release that. There's a section right here over this latch, so we, kind of, need to push it out. As I push it out, just lift it over, and I can slide this panel right out of the way. Just like that.
There's a connector right here. Just disconnect the connector. Push down on the tab and slide it right out. We want to take these Torx screws out. I'm going to use a T25 and a ratchet and loosen these up. I'm going to pull that last bolt out, and I'm going to just slide this out. Just like that. There's a connector right here. Push down on this tab and disconnect the connector. There we go.
Here's the old latch. Here's the new latch from 1aauto.com. It's got the same shape, the same actuator, the same connector, and the same connector over here. Get yours at 1aauto.com and you'll be ready to rock and roll.
We're going to start by connecting this connector because it's hard to get to once it's in there, so just line that up and then lock it in place. I'm going to slide this back into position. Take these Torx bolts. Get those started, and take our T25 and a ratchet and we'll snug these all up. Just like that. Then we can connect this electrical connector. Just get it lined up and plug it in.
All right. We want to take this panel. I want to slide this part over the latch right here. With that lift glass open, slide that over. Once that's slid over, try to get these push retainers in, and those are all lined up. Just put these four screws in using a Phillips head screwdriver. All right. Close that. Make sure that's good.

'10 Mercury Mariner Actuator Perfect Fit
Marco
April 20, 2024
This was a perfect fit for my 2010 Mercury Mariner liftgate. Only maybe a 15-20 minute job and my liftgate is operating like it should again. Thanks!
