Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace and service a reverse light on this 2001 Volkswagen Beetle, and it's the same part and similar process on these Beetles from '98 to 2005, and we show you on the passenger side, but the driver side is the similar procedure. The items you'll need for this are a new reverse light from 1AAuto.com, an 8mm socket and ratchet, a flat blade screwdriver, and for the passenger side, you're going to need a T20 Torx bit or Torx driver.
On the driver side, you can access the light, right here. On the passenger side, there is this panel, that's held in with four T20 Torx bolts. Just go ahead and remove those. Slide back the panel and pull it down, and now you have access to the back of your reverse light. Stick a screwdriver into the slot on top of the harness and pry it back, and then pull the harness down.
To replace your bulb, just twist the socket counterclockwise, then pull the bulb out, twist your new bulb in, and twist the socket back in clockwise to lock it. To replace the entire assembly, you'll remove these two 8mm bolts, and the light will just push out.
On the left is the old light; on the right is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical and they'll fit exactly the same. Twist the socket out of your old assembly and then twist it into your new assembly and feed the assembly up into place. Just push it straight back until this does go through and then replace those two 8mm nuts. Just tighten those up. Reconnect your harness, and then, just feed the panel back up into place and slide it forward. Then, just replace those four T20 bolts, and you're all set. We hope this video helps you out.
