In this video, we're going to replace the ignition coil on this Durango with a 5.2liter V8. Tools you'll need are 10 mm socket and ratchet, a 10 mm combination wrench, an adjustable wrench and a screwdriver. You want to remove the air box and it's pretty easy. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen up this nut on top of your throttle body. Take that off. Then there's four clips so you could open up your air cleaner. You take this whole assembly up. You put it off to the side. Remove your air cleaner. There's a bolt down in, that's 10 mm. There's also a bolt over here in the back corner that you want to remove, its 10 mm. Then there's a little pin right here that you need to pull out. Okay so we'll remove this bolt. We'll just going to put it down in there to keep it. Then you want to use a screwdriver or something, somebody had already broken it on this vehicle, use a screwdriver and just pry that away. The bolt that's right down on the center of your box here, just remove that. Okay, then your entire box comes up and out. Then you got plenty of room to work right here. Okay, with all that room now, getting the coil is no problem. You can disconnect that wire, 10 mm wrench on one side and then 10 mm socket and ratchet.
Okay, and let me just speed through removing those two bolts that hold the coil on. Then you pull it out. Then there's a little thumb tab right there, you press and pull. Okay, this is the old ignition coil, here's the new one from 1AAuto. You can see it's all the same. Everything is going to plug in the same. It doesn't have a plastic case all around it but that doesn't hurt its functionality at all. You can see it will bolt right in. I am just going to bolt in the original one because it isn't, there's nothing wrong with it. The car is running fine. Okay, let's try to reinstall, put the top bolt in and reconnect the harness, put it through, put this nut on. Okay, let's put the bottom bolt in and reach back in behind here. I think it's easiest just to press the bolt against the metal, put it down where it needs to go. Then turn the bolt into it into the nut finger tight. Just tighten up the top one. You don't have to be overly tight with these, just snug then tighten up the bottom. Now let's reconnect your coil wire and we can put the air box back in. Okay, now we'll fast forward to putting the air box back in. Put it down in. That inside bolt, tighten that down, put the other bolt on the back there. Tighten it up. Put the air filter back in, put that back down, clamp it back on. Make sure you have the nut tight on the top of the throttle body and you're all set.

In this video, we're going to show you ignition coil replacement. This 2008 Dodge Ram has the hemi 5.78 engine in it and the procedure to do it is the same for pretty much any truck, although if you have a Hemi engine in some of the other platforms such as the Dodge Durango or the Dodge Challenger, the procedure could be different. You actually go up through the wheel well for some of the cylinders.
Items you need include new ignition coils from 1AAuto.com. 10 millimeter socket - actually you'll need various rackets and extensions to get into different places on different coils -, flat blade screwdriver, and dielectric or silicon grease.
Open up your hood, on each side of the engine there are four coils. You can see the front one here, and then they go back, and it's all the same procedure for each one. Those ones you just need to use a short socket and a wrench. To disconnect, there's a little tab on the backside.
Push them towards the coil a little bit, push the tab to disconnect. Then a 10 millimeter socket and ratchet will remove the bolts that hold the coils. The bolts actually have little retainers on them so they don't come all the way out. Once you get it loose, just move it around a little bit and pull them up and out.
To access the coils on the passenger side, we're just going to remove the intake hose and the top of the air box. There's four clips, just unclip them. Loosen this clamp here, flat blade screwdriver, and pull this hose off, pull this hose off, and then bring your intake box up and off. It gives you access. On this side you may want to have extensions to do this second one here. Again, push the connector towards the coil some and push the tab and release.
Here's the original coil from the vehicle, and the new coil from 1A Auto. You can see it's exactly the same. It's going to install just like the original.
If you want to use some dielectric or silicon based grease and just put a little bit right inside the tube that fits over the spark plug. Put the coil back in, you'll want to push down firmly and then start the bolts probably with your hand. Once it's tight, reconnect the lead, put your air box lid back in, connect this hose, push it over. Get it locked in right. Flip the tabs up and on. Then tighten up this clamp.
