In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the front drive shaft on this 2006 Jeep Liberty. The items you'll need for this are an 8mm socket and ratchet, flat blade screwdriver, a hammer, jack and jack stands, and a second person isn't required but it does make this a lot easier.
The front drive shaft is located right here, and it's held in on either end with a series of 8mm bolts. We'll start off by removing the front 8mm bolts. Using a hammer and a flat blade screwdriver, break that front part free. We'll just fast forward as Don removes the 8mm bolts on the other side. It helps to have another person holding the drive shaft while someone else removes the bolts, but you can brace it yourself. Again, use a hammer and a flat blade screwdriver and break this end free. Then you just pull this down and out.
Take your new drive shaft and feed it back up into place. You want to feed it in the back end first, and push the back end up and over where it's supposed to go. Then feed the front end in. You can now lower that back end down in place. Then you just want to replace those 8mm bolts. We'll just fast forward as Don replaces those and tightens them up. You want to stop the wheel from moving so that this won't turn so you can tighten the bolts up. Have a second person to hold the wheel or brace it some other way just so that it can't move. You want to repeat the process on the other end. Again, we'll just fast forward as Don replaces those 8mm bolts. After you've preliminarily tightened the bolts, go around in a kind of crossing pattern, tighten them to about twelve to fourteen foot-pounds.

Worked good after install
Only lasts about 20,000 to 30,000 miles. Replaced them 3 times inside 65,000 miles. I think it's due to the low quality grease. The installed grease is light yellow or opaque and is either lithium or lower quality grease. The grease should be black to dark amber and be Calcium Sulfanate grease. It lasts longer and maybe will lengthen the wear life. These should last 80,000 miles or more, especially if 4x4 is rarely used. When I pull the bad ones off and inspect the grease is always burned up or completely gone.

Had serious problems with this drive shaft and the replacement drive shaft that A1 Auto sent after the first one failed then they refuse to send me a third one and refunded my money and told me good luck shopping elsewhere I thought I will ever buy anything ever again from A1 Auto
The TRQ driveshaft sold by 1A auto is a great value and shipped super fast. The part was an exact fit for 2007 Liberty (4x4, 6sp manual). The video on 1A Autos website was helpful in explaining the removal process and I had the whole job done in an hour. Only downside is the new bolts are internal hex so they are a little trickier to tighten up (the will strip easily).

The end caps were not well connected. Had to rotate them in the shaft separately to make sure they stay in line. Did get them installed though
You have to measure the shaft under your vehicle and match up the length to the driveshaft you are purchasing. There are 2 sizes - 16.5" and i think 20". Measure from weld to weld. This would be for a front drive shaft 4x4.
For the 2005 model we only list two separate options. One of which has the 19 inch prop shaft, and the one you are viewing with a 16 1/2 inch prop shaft. If your OE is measuring at 17 then we would recommend purchasing this part as the measurement may be slightly off.
